I had never thought of Costa Rica until I saw it on here and now I am so intrigued and have been going online and checking it out. Whoever has been can you tell me where you stayed and what you think is a must do while there. Also how long is the flight from NY?
Thank you so much.

Re: Costa Rica Honeymoons
I went there in 2007 and there wasnt a direct flight so it was about 6 hrs total with connection in miami I think it should be less than that with a direct flight. It depends on what type of hm your looking for there are lots of places to stay either on the coast or inland in arenal.

American is starting direct service to San Jose in March. Though it would probably be best to fly into Liberia to cut back travel time.
I would recommend working with a travel agent and spending time in Arenal (stay at Tabacon Grand Thermal Resort) for a few days and then traveling to Guanacaste (the Pacific Coast) for its gorgeous beaches. It's a magical place and there's so much to do...all while remaining romantic. There's not too many places that offer an adventure like this (canopy, white water rafting ect.)
I just returned from CR last Monday....I'm definitely having withdrawal and it was so amazing that we've considered cancelling our next vacation (Hawaii in May) and going back for 2 weeks.

Hotel-wise, I'd recommend: * Tabacon Hot Springs in Arenal * Costa Verde Hotel in Manuel Antonio * NOT staying in San Jose at all! It's a very grimey city.
Happy planning!

Re: Costa Rica Honeymoons
We got engaged in Costa Rica this past December...
Let me tell you.. IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! Their beaches are out of this world. We stayed near Liberia at El Coco Beach.. we rented a car there (and I advise you to do the same)... WITH A NAVI.. because the streets have no names lol.. and we took a drive to Arenal.. My 2 pictures on here are from there by the way. If you want some specific info.. let me know.. I'll be more then happy to help :)

ITA! Avoid San Jose, nothing to see there.

I went there with my fiance 2 years ago, it was beautiful! We stayed a few days in La Fortuna/Arenal area at the Lost Iguana (amazing beautiful small hotel!) We also traveled the the western side to the los suenos marriott for a few days, very beautiful hotel but much bigger.

Costa Rica is the best vacation I've ever been on. As PP mentioned, don't stay in San Jose..nothing to see. We went to Arenal - a must see. Tabacon would be a nice place to stay and has hot springs. You can waterfall rappell, visit a waterfall, go caving, do a canopy walk and zipline there.
Manuel Antonio is nice too and it's a combination of beach and rainforest. If you need shuttle information, I can recommend a company. We were 4 girls and we went from San Jose airport - Arenal - Monteverde - Manuel Antonio - back to S.J. They were reliable.
edited: June is part of the rainy season. Expect it to pour for about 1 hr or so in the middle of the day. You'll have the rest of the day to do whatever you want, but just wanted to give you a heads up.

Re: Costa Rica Honeymoons
did you book on your own or have an organized trip planned with a travel agent. My FH is concerned about transportation and he actually enjoys organized tours, etc. I looked into ABC tours which some of my colleagues have used.
Keep in mind..our honeymoon is going to be 3 months AFTER our wedding...
Thanks for your advice!
