Cough medicine

I didn't want to be the neurotic mother-to-be and call my doctor every single time I'm worried (which would be quite often), so i figured someone would here would be able to soothe my mind.

I'm about 4 months pregnant and have a cold. It started out as a sore throat, then changed into a cough. I don't feel that bad, just have a nagging cough (and no fever)... so is there any type of cough medicine that I could take without harming anything? I've been taking some cough/throat drops, but they don't seem to work too well...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

When I was pregnant and had a cold, doctor said NO to any cough medicines! Said to just wait it out and drink lots of fluids and rest but no to anything more than lozenges. Fortunately, my cold only lasted a few miserable days--I hope the same for you! By the way, you should never feel bad calling your doctor about anything, no matter how silly. They are used to it and should be happy to advise you!
