I stayed at the Omni Royal New Orleans (twice!) and it was wonderful! It's about a block away from Bourbon Street - all the convenience without the noise. According to Expedia it's rated a 4 star.
The Royal Sonesta is supposed to be great too - my sisters BF stayed there and really liked it.

When I stayed in New Orleans I was at the International House- they are a boutique hotel and have a great bar. The are along the lines of a W hotel. The hotel is not in the French Quarter, but it is *right* down the block... just a 5 minute walk and you are in the thick of things. When we stayed (for New Years of 2001) the rate was $199 per night. The hotel has all Aveda products, CD Player, awesome bathroom, etc.

I know there is a W in the French Quarter that is slightly more expensive than the International House. W hotels are my favorite.. the rooms might not be the biggest but they are loaded with the BEST ammenities- down beds, high thread count sheets, I think also Aveda products, etc.

I just read an article in US News (I think) that had a story on a 4* hotel in NO...La Pavillion (I think)

they said how they usually charge $250+, but you can get a discount if you book 14 days or less...and get it for $238...

I hope I got the info right...
