Could use some opinions about this...
Our wedding is this summer in upstate NY. We have a lot of family coming in from out of state of of whom we rarely see and a lot of people are staying overnight and making a weekend of it.
The bridal party is staying at the B&B where our wedding will be held and the rest of the guests will be staying at a nearby inn. Breakfast is included in the meal rates, so we will be split up for breakfast.
I thought it would be nice to have a lunch all together before everyone left...to kind of extend the party and to take advantage of everyone being in the same place. FH and I checked out a local winery--and LOVED it. They have a nice waterfront tent space with picnic tables for rent. I figured it would work out well for the people who are interested in wine tasting and for the people who don't want to drink, but just want to visit and have lunch. The only drawback is that it is a large expense and we would be footing the bill.
FH and I just returned from living abroad. Because we have been away for more than a year and because a lot of my family is out of state, we did not do and are not doing any of the traditional pre-wedding parties like engagement, shower, rehearsal dinner, etc. So I thought it would be nice and justifiable for us to have a lunch the following afternoon before everyone goes home.
My parent think I am crazy. They are wondering why I would want to spend so much money after the huge wedding expense on another party. And they think there is no point in having a party unless we will be getting gifts for it. They remind me that engagement parties and showers etc. are less of an expense because of the gifts...and that they are thrown by others rather than the bride & groom footing the bill.
FH has doubts that people will want to drink again after the wedding...and he thinks they might be anxious to get back home the following morning rather than attend another party.
I guess I'd just like to hear other opinions...
