can someone recommed a good therapist for couples..we are not married but have a lot of stuff going on right now and need someone to go to. In the nassau county area.

They do couples counseling at Hofstra University. It costs only $15 a session and is led my PhD students and supervised by a licensed psychologist.
I would also recommend Virginia (Ginny) Havermeyer. She is a social worker and works in Westbury. There is another psychologist named Zoe (I would have to get her last name) who just opened a private practice in Rockville Centre. I heard she is very good.
I have a bunch of people I can recommend because I have my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Let me know what area you are in.

You can go through your insurance. Depending on your plan, you will have a certain number of sessions. But many psychologists only accept cash. There are many low cost options at clinics, PhD training programs, and most universities offer free therapy for their students. The Albert Ellis Institute in NYC is another amazing, low cost option.
The most important thing to ask about is the therapist's training. You want someone who has been trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). This includes graduates of Hofstra, Fordham, and Stonybrook doctoral programs. You want to avoid therapists who are psychodynamically or psychoanalytically trained.

I just wanted to say good for you for caring enough to seek out help. I have a couple of friends who are too 'proud' to and their relationships are so toxic.
