Does anyone have an in the wall A/C that they have covered for the winter? My mother brought me a cover (for the inside) and it is ugly as all heck. It's such an eyesore, it looks like a quilted burlap sack. Surely there is something better looking out there...or am I stuck with this ugly thing all winter??
Help!

Re: covering an in the wall air conditioner
Liz, I know what you are talking about...I think I saw that in the 'Hard to find Tools' catalog. I am thinking of getting two of those b/c we have two 'in wall' AC's in our house. One of them would be hidden by the drapes, and the other DH was thinking of building a wooden cabinet to fit over the unit. That way, the quilted cover actually keeps the heat in, and the cabinet takes care of the eyesore. My parents have a 'cabinet' built for the one that we used to have in our LR growing up.

have you considered decorating it? - cover it with cardboard - it could look like a xmas gift during the holidays
or maybe even a corkboard

Trio Hardware in Plainview has them for $25 each so maybe other hardware stores have them. Lowe's only had outside covers, nothing for the inside.

Re: covering an in the wall air conditioner
Here is something my neighbor did- which I am TOTALLY copying. It is adorable and looks so adorabe in the living room. She bought a window shutter and customed it to the size of her AC. Then she painted flowers on it on the top strips. It looks amazing. So when you want to turn on the AC you just open the shutter. And during the winter you can stuff it with insulation and you won't see it. She something like this white one that you can by at Home Depot.
