CP question -- how do I know how many? UPDATE

I have to know how many CPs I need for my reception, however, how do I know how many tables I will have so far in advanced? I'll be having around 175 guests and my hall says they seat no more than 12 per table. I havent made a seatign chart yet, so how the heck am I suppose to know how many tables I will have??
Should I just guess?

UPDATE: I just sat down and did a preliminary seating chart based on who I think will respond 'yes.' I took all your advice and did mostly tables of 10 (some of 8 and some had to be 12). I ended up with 19 tables!!!!! Grrr....wasnt expecting that many. Thanks for all of your help ladies!!!!

well, you must have an idea of who is definitely going, who is a maybe, and who is likely not coming.....

From that, you'll have an idea of the definites vs maybes, and then plan about 10 people per table.

You can always tack on or remove one centerpiece a month before the ceremony, after you've received the RSVPS...

Jen, 12 is VERY tight for the tables at CLM. I didnt go but ask anyone who went to TWOTY.

Id do 10. if you're expecting around 170, thats 17 centerpieces. Im assuming you can change the number up or down when you meet the florist for the last time a few weeks prior.

Thats what im doing with Flower Michele.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to go with 10 per table then. The problem we're running into is that we're not having a florist do our CP's, we're actually doing silk and doing them ourselves. We have to buy the spring flowers now while they have them in stock (they get rid of them in late April) , but I have to be sure of how many I need so I can actually get all the flowers while they are available

I agree. You should put about 10 people per table, meaning you will need about 17 cp..its possible that as your wedding approaching and you begin getting ur RSVPs that you may need less..but its a chance you take. Guess 17..u should be ok.

I agree.. 12 is a bit tight. I went to TWOTY and it felt like we were on top of each other. I am getting married at CLM too and will probably have around the same number of guests. I wouldn't squeeze them into tables. There is plenty of room spread it out and go for the extra table/centerpiece if you could afford to.

I agree with the other posters I would make a few extra , you could always put them around the room. On the bar, seating card table, photo table..etc. I would figure 10 people per table so I would make about 20 arraingements. Can't wait to see pics!!!!

SOme of my tables had 7 and some had 12. I dont think it really matters. Just no more than 12. Id do your seating chart and then see how many tables you come up with.

I had this one who couldnt sit next to that one etc..

I would do 10 per table. I figure we have tables that seat 10-12 some tables will be 10 and some will be 12 etc. So you do 10 per which will give you 17 and a leeway of 5 people. ALso, you should have to give thema final count of CPs a few weeks before-maybe by then you will know exactly how many
