Cradle Cap?

Anthony has this so bad. I feel so bad for him. I have been putting baby oil and brushing his hair everyday but it just is getting worse. I feel like its something I did or maybe didn't do and its my fault that he has it! Any other suggestions? is there a Rx for this?? The dr says vasoline?

Caiden had it too. We used a baby comb. Of course wet the area and then do it. Their scalp will get red, but it didn't hurt him, and it came right off! It was a suggestion from a BTDT mom.

my little guy has it too...I have been using baby oil.

I read in the what to expect book to massage the area with petroleum jelly but havent tried this yet.

Although I am not a mommy yet, I remember when my little cousins were infants, my aunt would wash their heads with a wash cloth and she really scrubbed, it didnt hurt them though, and like all of you said the baby oil and baby comb. They never once had it. My SIL also does this with my niece and nephew and I have never once seen them with it.

When Maiah had it I used baby oil and a soft, clean tooth brush and gently brushed at her scalp until I removed it all. It took a little while to do, but she never had it again.

My doctor told me to just use a wash cloth, not wet and rub his head. I did it the other day and it worked. Jake didn't cry once.

Re: Cradle Cap?

It's not your fault. It happens...

I used baby oil and a fine tooth comb and combed back to front and vice-versa for a while (10 minutes or so) and then washed with the baby shampoo to get the oil out. Don't worry, I just had to do it again at 8 months because Gabriella suddenly had another case of it. I think I also combed side to side....just any which way to break the scales. The scalp will turn red, but it doesn't seem to phase them.

what is cradle cap?

From what I learned when I worked at the daycare.. cradle cap are these dry scale like things that are found on the head of young babies (under 5 or 6 months, i think - correct me if i'm wrong).

Someone suggested olive oil to me. Amber only had it a little and I got it off by working her scalp with a wet washcloth.

Matthew has cradle cap and his doctor told us to use Neutragena T-Gel shampoo once a week.

Re: Cradle Cap?

Just put a bit of oil on his hair and leave it on for 30 minutes or so. Then use a soft toothbrush and the stuff will come right off...and shampoo 2x afterwards. Molly had this a few weeks ago and it worked like a charm.

wow, I never new this had a name. My little brothers used to get this and I remember that we would just use a soft brush to get it out.

Tara had it too and I was told baby oil and then comb it. My friend had it with her son and said the scalp will get a little red but it's OK. I did Tara's while she was sleeping and she never even woke. Good lord that was disgusting but her little scalp was perfect after that. It's amazing that it works so well, I was skeptical.

Aidan still gets this at 6.5 months. I never used the oil and comb method because scrubbing with the wash cloth always helped it disappear but frankly it keeps coming back. Not bad, and you have to actually sift though his hair to see it but still.

I think I will try the oil before his bath tomorrow morning.
