How old was your baby when they started crawling? Kiera is 6 1/2 months and she is starting to make motions like she wants to crawl. She 'swimming' all over and every time she's on her tummy now she pushes herself backwards.
I'm wondering if she's going to do this for a while or if she could be crawling very soon.

no Ryan is not crawling yet! but I have a friend who has an 11-month old and this is what she did for a few weeks before she started crawling. The next thing she did was get on her knees and hands like she was going to crawl and rock back and forth. It was the cutest thing! Ryan is just starting the swimming motions.

Nick almost 8 months and he does not crawl...however he does not get much time on his stomach to practice. We have hardwood floors, and he does not like to lay on them! When I do put him on his stomach on a blanket or on the bed, he does not do much at all.

My best friend also has all hardwood floors and her mom had the best idea -- she went to BJ's and bought - don't laugh - these 5foot by 5foot flat dog beds. They're actually really nice - they're tapestry on the bottom and heavy sheepskin type fleece on top. Her 6 month old does all her play time and tummy time on them.

My son Dominic was about your daughters age when ha started crawling, and he did the same motions for a few weeks before he started. Actually he crawled backwards first then forward!

Same thing with Amber. She was around six months and did the rock on your knees thing first, then crawled backwards. It shouldn't be long...

My son was getting up on all fours at 7 months, then crawling by 7 1/2, with the exception of an area rug under the coffee table we're wood floors.
I used to put down a blanket and he had a set of those foam mats, but after he was mobile it really didn't matter he didn't stay on them anyway! The floor doesn't seem to bother him.
