Ladies- was anyone near GC last night during the explosion? Just checking that all of you are okay!!
It happened very close to my offices, but I was downtown eating when it happened. But the people still at work said the building shook and the lights flickered and the loud speaker came on and made them evacuate. Scary!!!!!!

Re: crazy explosion
i was. my building is a block from it. i was sitting in my office and noticed a noise that sounded like thunder so i ignored it b/c it was thundering all morning. then it didn't stop and all of a sudden my co-worker yelled out that it looked like the chrysler building collapsed. we're on the 35th floor so all we saw was smoke and felt this loud rumbling that wouldn't stop. we all ran out and even though the elevators were running they were jam packed so we took the stairs (yes, 35 flights).... no one knew what it was, for a while we were just standing outside looking at smoke (which was really steam). the noise was CRAZY...thank god it was what it was and not a building collapse or a terrorist attack. it was really scary. Sad that one lady went into cardiac arrest but I'm so glad that there weren't so many more hurt.

I left right before it happened and saw it on the news at the gym. I couldn't believe it. I hope all of you who work by there are okay.

Re: crazy explosion
Wow! I couldn't imagine being right there, not knowing what it was! Of course everyone would assume the worst! I work on the 11th floor, literally above Madison Sq. Garden, and we are always having terrorist drills, rather than fire drills. There are constantly bomb threats or suspicious packages that they have to clear 7th Ave to check, and we can watch from the 11th floor window. Its scary! I'm glad you are all okay and it had nothing to do with Terrorists!

That's exactly what happened to me. We all thought it was thunder, then the lights flickered and went off for a minute, then people on the north side of the building saw what they thought was smoke come up and started yelling for people to get out of the building. I ran down 44 flights without even stopping to get my purse, phone, blackberry or anything else. Now our building is closed and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back in!

Re: crazy explosion
My FH works right next to GC and he left right before it happened. He went to work this morning, but all of a sudden all the electricity shut off, and people were stuck in the elevator!! Thankfully they got out, but it took them 1 hour!!!!
My poor FH, it must be scary being in a big building w/ no electricity...kinda creepy, ya know?

Re: crazy explosion
I run out the door at 5pm but the guys in my office were here. Luckily everyone is okay. It's so scary working in the city sometimes.
