Open gas cards. I actually read that opening cards and using them realistically and properly - only charging a few small purchases a month and paying them off IN FULL EVERY MONTH - will improve your credit better than almost anything else. It shows you are dependable and worthy of credit.

This is going to sound weird but it is True

If FH has better credit or a higher credit score have him open an account and give a card in your name. you will assume him credit idenity. it does take time to catch up but it is so worth it.

I had horrible credit and FH had great credit. We were advised of this and now i have a credit score over 800. I cant wait to see what kind of rate we will get when we buy a house.

Also make sure that you outstanding dept on any card is less then 50% of the limit.

This is very interesting to me - do you mind if I ask you a few questions?

I have great credit and my FH has terrible credit. He owes a bunch of money but we are considering not paying it since it's almost 7 years old, and we have been told that after 7 years, they can't sue and it starts to come off your report.

If I give FH a card in my name, and he uses it RESPONSIBLY (only when I am with him ), will MY credit score go down??? Or will his only go up?

How long did it take for you to get better credit?

I have a high credit score (733) and yet I cannot seem to get a credit card. I just paid my VISA off in full and canceled them (I HATE Chase). They had me at 28.99% APR for the stupidest reason (1 late payment in 3 years (by only 2 days) - and I called to say why it was late; we were moving).

I pay all my bills on time. I usually don't carry a balance, but I have been lately because of Grad school.

So, now I have one credit card - AMEX - and it is also at a high APR. However, AMEX told me if I paid off the other card and continued to make my payments on time, they will lower it within a month or 2.

Why am I being penalized with such a high credit score? I make 1 late payment and I get screwed? W T F?

your credit is only effected in the fact what you opened a new account. His credit will go up and you might lose 5 or 10 points but that will correct itself over about 3 months time.
i could take a year or so for his credit to sore but it is so worth it.
personally I feel that Amex is the best card in reporting to the credit beaureas.
In fact you can open a card in his name and never give him the card....since it is linked to your account he will still assume your credit identity.

I was in the same way. I had several defauted account from 5 or 6 years prior. I think my credit score 6 years ago was something in the 400s

A credit score is something that is assigned by a computer. CC companies and loan companies look at many other things besides your credit score.

(FH stays up late and watches alot of Suze Orman)

I've made 1 late payment in the past year. I have no collections against me. I always pay more than the min.

I don't get it.

Yup. I checked it when Chase Visa refused to lower my APR. They said it had to do with my credit report. So I panicked. Then I saw nothing on my credit report. None of them (I bought the 3 reports).

So, I'm going to stick with my AMEX for now. I made a payment today and I don't have to pay again till the end of August. I'll call after making that payment to see if they will lower my APR.

I just don't understand.

Ok, that was the same for me. I paid everything off that I could as quickly as I could. Stop paying just the minimum balances and stop charging. If you have large balances try to transfer them to a new card with 0% interest rate so you are paying the principle down and close out all other cards. Make sure you pay on time. Get one card that you use and pay on time every month to help show you in good standing. If I can fo it...ANYBODY can !! ALso, get a copy of yor credit report. Be aware of what is on it and see what you can do to remove anything negative. You'd be surprised what calling a creditor can accomplish.

I've heard of people transfering balances to a card with 0% interest. BUt how can someone get a card with no interest if their credit is so sh*tty??
I'm in need of debt help too

Re: Credit Help

I have turned my credit around in 1 year. The first thing you need to do is get a copy of your credit report. If there is anything on there that you dispute you have to dispute it. The company that is saying you owe it has 30 days to respond to your dispute if they don't it get taken off. If they are legit charges you need to contact them and work out a pmt arrg. Settlement usually isn't good so if you can try to pay in full. Whether it's pmts or in full. If you do payments they they start to report that you are paying on time. I had someone elses SS # on my report and there were things that were taken care of years ago and all I had to do was provide proof and it was wiped of. FM for any questions.
