CrescentBride!

I am so jealous of your trip to Portugal. I was there last summer for the Euro 2006 (soccer) and I fell in LOVE! It's beautiful, the people are wonderful and it's probably one of the least expensive places in Europe right now! Where is Portugal will you be? (I was mostly in Oporto)

If you like fish, eat the baccalao- it's awesome! Enjoy yourself and enjoy meeting your 'new' family members!

Please please please post pics!!

Re: CrescentBride!

you will be happy to know I liked Oporto better than Madrid!!! We took a boat ride along the Douro River to the mouth of the Atlantic...it was awesome

we had a hug misadventure too....the took the night train from Madrid and we were supposed to transfer.....long story short on the way back we got off at the wrong STation!!! and had to take a cab all the way to catch the LAST train going back to Madrid....it was crazy- driving in the pitch black in a little car at top speed along a (mostly) one lane back road shortcut the driver knew....but he got us there with minutes to spare (and a smile) we would have missed our plane from Madrid to barcelona without him!!

It was awesome!

Re: CrescentBride!

Did you go anywhere else besides Oporto?

JessicaM. Posted:

Re: CrescentBride!

unfortunately no, but now we know better. I don't consider the time we spent between transfering trains spending time somewhere else.

I have always wanted to go to Fatima and Lisbon too- but now I want to see it ALL. The thing I loved most about Portugal is that they are not out to impress anyone...everyone lives their lives- regardless of if it's tourist season- different than in Madrid- where it felt like they were putting on a show...it's just my opinion, but I really felt like I was getting a real look at Portugese life, which is what I love about traveling. I felt that to a certain extent in some cities in Spain (we spent more time there) but Portugal was very special.

Re: CrescentBride!

yeah, they really aren't out to impress. When I took FI there he had a little bit of a culture shock at first, but now he loves it there mostly because of their way of life.

Ohhh....and I am getting married in the church in FATIMA!!! I can't wait!!! That's why I was asking, I didn't know if you had gotten a chance to see Fatima....

Oh my God, that will be so beautiful. My family is VERY catholic (my father especially) and he would make us watch all of the church movies about the different saints and miracles...my favorite was always the story of Fatima.

when is your second wedding?? maybe I will crash you ceremony!!

Re: CrescentBride!

We are getting married here on 5/21 at Eastwind (doing a ceremony at Eastwind) and then we leave a day or two after, go to Portugal and have a wedding there 5/27!!!!

Hey...if you plan to be there, you don't have to crash!!! I'll send you an invite...it will be in portuguese though so you better brush up on portuguese skills!!!

Re: CrescentBride!

the crazy thing is I will be in Europe around that time...I just haven't figured out the exact dates yet. We know we will be in Germany for at least a week in the beginning of June, but I'm not sure how the other two weeks would go....

It would be AMAZING to attend your wedding in Fatima!!!

ETA: Obrigada!

Re: CrescentBride!

Well keep me posted on your plans...they actually do weddings different than ours here, so it wouldn't be your average wedding!!!

Besides, my FI would love more people who can speak english....he's not portuguese so he has major language barrier issues when we go there!!!

Now...where is Cresent Bride today?!!!

Edited to add in the smiley

I am here, I am here!! I don't know how I missed this post!! We are staying in Lisbon. That's where is grandmother lives. We aren't staying with her because her apartment can not hold FH's parents and us. I don't know exactly where we are staying because his uncle and aunt booked the room for us as a surprise; but I do know that it is in an old castle.

I have heard so much about the food and the amazing fish and shellfish.

I have never been to Portugal, but I am so psyched!!! Let me restate that....I never left the country before!!!!!FH spent his summers there (with his grandparents). I am so jealous!

I am trying to learn portugese, any suggestions???

Has anyone else been to Lisbon before? I hear it is a major city in Portugal. What are your suggestions to do???

Re: CrescentBride!

Hi!!! Got your FM too!!!

You must be so excited!!! Lisbon is the city capital of Portugal, so it is one of the biggest cities in Portugal. It's nice but it is also a little dirtier than the rest of the country but that's I think with any major city. Trust me, the city is gorgeous. The nightlife there is incredible and there are so many nice views there!!!

As for learning Portuguese, I don't know....I already know portuguese because I was born there and lived there until I was 8. I have been trying to teach FI with no luck, it is a hard language and FI even had a hard time with everyone's first names!! LOL!! In Lisbon you should have no problem, a lot of the younger crowd, like if he has cousins in their 20's, should know the basic English. If you need help with anything, definetely just ask!!!

You are going to have a great time!! I'm getting excited for you!!!
