I see a lot of cribs I like, but they have a stationary rail and 4 height mattress adjustment. My girlfriend says no way- get one with a drop rail...what do you think? What do you have? It seems like there are a lot out there with this type of rail now.
Thoughts?

Re: Cribs with Stationary rail...Yay or Nay?
I don't like the stationary rail because I'm petite, and when the mattress is at the lowest level I would have difficulty reaching and lifting the child. When the mattress is at the lowest level is when the child will be a little older, so they will also be a little bigger. I need the drop rail.

I prefer the drop rail also, I am also on the shorter side, and had a hard time reaching down.

Re: Cribs with Stationary rail...Yay or Nay?
As a BTDT Mom, we used the drop rail alot when my son got to the lowest level. Im 5'7' but to put a sleeping baby into a crib easily, the side needs to be dropped. Another way we used it was when he started climbing out of the crib. He's always been a climber and started climbing out at 15 months. Before we switched him over to a big boy bed @ 21 months, we used to leave the side down. He was going to climb out anyway but this way if he fell as he was climbing out, it wasnt from as high up - I know someone whose son broke his arm climbing out and falling.

def a drop down rail. i'm short so it was tough to bend down into the crib unless the sides dropped down.

I think it means its Stationary doesnt move But I haven't researched any of this stuff. I can tell you though I am only 4'10 and babysat for my cousins daughter for a few months. They have the drop down rail but the crib was the biggest PITA ever. I never could get it to drop down with out it coming off the hinges. Even with the rail down thought and the matress dropped down to the lowest level I had a hard time reaching.

I don't have one, but I thought the panel that flaps down on the stationary crib pretty much made as much open space as the rail that slides down.
When our rail is down it makes about a 6in opening.

I am only 5' 1' tall, and we have a stationary rail crib, and I've never had a problem w/it. The distance between the mattress (at the lowest point) and the top of the rail is no different than a drop rail crib...otherwise the manufacturers would not make them like that.
If you look at the design of the stationary rail cribs, they are typically made so that the front 'stationary' rail is lower than the back one.
Personally, I love the look of the stationary rail cribs better...they seem sturdier (because they are built lower to the ground) and less likely to tip, if a child were to climb out of it.

The only problem I've heard about with stationalry rail beds is if you plan on getting pregnant again pretty quick and then have the whole 'tummy getting in the way' issue.

I figured I could just do it sideways then.. like how I'm starting to get used to doing everything now.. lol
I have a stationary, not alas no baby yet but I played with it in the store and don't forsee a high problem. I loved the idea of the stationary because I remember the drop rail being a huge pain when I used to babysit (but naturally those were older jenny lind styles)
