crocheting???

is crocheting hard? lol. i am taking a craft class in college and i need to pick a semester long independent project with a cultural background...so i was googling ideas and i came accross lei making by crocheting...
i have never crochet before, or sewed, or much anything too crafty. do you think this would be hard to do??? i need at least 13 hours worth of worth. let me know what you think! ~lacey
