Cross post from LIF...need selling help from e-bay veterans
My DH has this tool box (he is a mechanic) that is a limited edition Dale Earhardt (#3 ) snap on box.
It is friggin huge, and it is worth at least $15,000.
He was going to sell it back to the snap-on guy, but then he has to pay him a 10% commission for the sale & then DH would have to pay to have it moved from his shop to the guys truck.
OK FF to e-bay. DH decided he'd try to sell it there, but I need help. (Because of course DH wants me to list it & do all th follow-up work).
Here are some of my concerns: 1- it cannot be shipped by traditional means. The empty box weighs almost 1 ton. It would have to be flat-bed towed/shipped to whomoever buys it.
2- it is tremendous (6' deep x 7' wide x 7' tall) so I think it limits to car enthusiasts & not just NASCAR fans - so how do I list it so that the right people will look at it?
3- buyer pays shipping.....since the item is so big & hard to move, should we offer insurance or include it? Do they pay for insurance if they pay for shipping?
HELP!

As far as the shipping goes, I would put local pick up and/or buyer pays all shipping charges. This way people can have the choice of coming to pick up the tool box, or they can arrange (through a shipping/moving company) to have it picked up. We sold a car on ebay and did this....after the acution was over the buyer asked us to drive the car to New Jersey to a shipping place and they paid to have the car shipped somewhere in the Midwest. Also be sure to list a guaranteed (not called this, it slipped my mind at the moment, but basically states that if you don't get at least $xx amt. of dollars you will NOT sell to the highest bidder).
I think E-bay also has online help, for something of this nature, I'd definitely ask their assistance.

Also put it on craigslist. You may have a better time selling it there for a set price...and usually most people on that site are local anyway Scott

That is so funny - we have a snap-on tool box that we need to sell also!!!
My husband use to be a mechanic and ever since we got married this tool box has been such a thorn in our side. I have been begging him to get rid of it!!!!
Our's is not a limited edition - just a regular snap-on box worth about $8,000. I agree with what is posted; try to sell it locally on Ebay. Another option my husband is considering is calling local mechanic shops to see if anyone is interested.
Please keep me posted on how you make out.

well, you can ship it but it has to be by freight because the size...you may want to look up freight shippers...
