We went last New Year's and we weren't huge fans. We didn't think it was worth the price we paid.
Food was so-so except the dining room was excellent. Service was okay overall. The room size was nice (we got a window but not balcony). The sea days were boring. They had some activities but it was more like being in a dorm your freshman year than actual activities for adults. Excursions were fun enough. There was a huge problem with people saving spots by the pool so unless you woke up super early and claimed your area, you were basically destined to wander around the boat all day. By the end it was like we were bouncing off the walls.
We're doing Royal Caribbean this time.

I did Carnival and loved it, but there were a ton of kids. I went with my family over spring break so schools were off though. Oh, and there was gambling.

Re: cruise??
I think they do cater more to families, but don't trust me, maybe ask a travel agent.

Re: cruise??
FH and I do a Carnival Cruise every year at the end of February and we love it. When we go the kids are all in school. FH gambles everynight and then we hit the bars and clubs. The food is ok except dinner it was always good. The ship itself was aliitle 70's ish. We go just to get away and have fun!! Royal Caribean is a whole other atmosphere. The RC cruise I went on was gorgeous and loved the ports of call. So it depends on what your looking for. If your looking for a quick getaway for fun Carnival is the 'Fun Ship' If it's for your HM I would say RC.

There were slots and some table games like blackjack. Poker is not run by a dealer though. It's a video table. FH and the other guys at the table figured out that the rake was ridiculously high though, so much that it was almost not even worth it, you couldn't win that much. There was also bingo but it was $20 for 10 minutes of entertainment and 45 minutes of waiting around.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a fun ship with a lot of young people, then Carnival is right for you.
I prefer Celebrity. The service, food, ambiance- EVERYTHING about their ships are amazing. It's an older crowd but I enjoy it.

Re: cruise??
Ive been on Carnival and i loved it! There were alot of families, but that was because we went like the day after school was out. I always thought that Carnival catered to single people, and Royal Caribbean catered more to families, but I could be wrong.

Re: cruise??
depends on what you're looking for... carnival is good for a more party atmosphere... not necessarily what you may want out of a HM if thats why you're asking... last one we went on was with carnival out of PR with about 8 friends and we had an awesome time...

I've heard the same thing about Carnival and others have told me there were LOTS of kids around.
I went on princess and although there were some kids and I barely saw them. Theres 4 pools and they are on different decks. The big two pools are for mostly for adults and thats all i saw. Never really saw kids around there. THe good thing is that kids had a whole deck for themselves so thats where they all stayed. It had a pool for kids, also had an arcade room, mini golf, and had this virtual surf thing and more. The only time I saw kids is when i wanted to go to the arcade room and play lol, but those kids are mean and dont let anyone else play The good thing about crown princess is that there were alot of people in their 20's on the cruise
Ive also heard great things about Celebrity. DH went on Celebrity the summer before we met and he liked it alot

Re: cruise??
Last time we went Feb 24, 2008 FH and I looked all over for kids because we were thinking about taking my daughter on the next cruise and could hardly find any. The the children center said it was not the norm and usually the had a ton of kids. I guess it depends what time you go on the cruise. Also some of the newer Carnival ships have a kids deck as well and adult only areas.

Re: cruise??
Cruised Carnival once and will never do that again!!!! They cater to families me and my sisters went and there were no other people our age it was horrible also they are more low class as far as the ships. I do recommend RC they are awesome!!
