Re: cruise excursions
I have been on two cruises. I definately think you should do excursions. It is more moeny then just going to a beach, but you don't have to worry about transportation, getting lost, renting equipment (for snorkling, example), and especially you don't have to worry about the ship leaving without you because you will be with a huge group. If just 2 people are late the boat might leave! I think all of the excursions we did were alot of fun and worth it!
Where are you going?

Re: cruise excursions
I went on Carnival but we went to Jamaica, Cozumel and Grand Cayman on that cruise. I went on Costa and we went to San Juan, Dominican Republic, St Thomas and Bahamas. In San Juan we didn't do an excursion. We ended up walking from the port, around the city, and then to the old forts. It was beautiful! In St. Thomas we did an excursion to Coki Beach and sent snorkeling. It was a lot of fun! In the Dominican Republic we did an excursion where we went to a beach, Catalina Island, and then went on a Catamaran ride and went snorkeling again. This was the least fun excursion but it might be because it was cloudy.
I really LOVE cruises You will have a lot of fun on Carnival!

Re: cruise excursions
I went to bermuda recently.. pick an excursion a day to do. That's plenty. The rest of the time you can spend going around the place or hanging around on the boat.
If helmet diving is an option, do it, it's great!

Re: cruise excursions
We went on Carnival- we found that all the packages (that we wanted) were available cheaper off the boat.
For example. we did not book one excursion in Ensenada because we couldn't decide. it was 20 a person.
We got off the boat and decided to go- we booked directly through the company and paid 10 a person, but were sitting on the same bus with people who paid carnival.

Re: cruise excursions
you should check out cruise critic.com message boards. they are awesome with planning excursions. people have researched this stuff and can tell you which excursions are the best, and which can be booked off the boat. i used CC for our HM planning, and it was invaluable!!!!
Karen that site is awesome. I am going on a cruise for my HM and just posted a ? about shore excursions on the BHB board. Sorry to invade your thread, but I was obsessing about this for a while.

i don't think so. trust me - the taxis all know when the cruise ships are in town. that is how they make their $$. i am sure if you go to a popular beach, the taxis will be there.

Re: cruise excursions
I think they are totally worth it. It gives you a chance to explore the island a little better
