FFIL wants to pay for a cruise for us for our honeymoon which won't be taken until next year so we have some time to plan this. Neither one of us have been on a cruise and aren't sure exactly what to look for. Do you ladies have some ideas and some places that you went to that was just amazing?? Thanks!

Re: Cruises
I'm probably the only one who will tell you that cruises are not my style. Fh and I went on a 3 day Royal Caribbean cruise out of Miami to the Bahamas. I was seasick every night at about 6pm-but I am very sensitive. i wasn't crazy about the food, though the best meals were the dinners.
If I were you, and time and money allow, I would try a short cruise and see how you like it. Look for the last minutes sales, that what we did.

Re: Cruises
DH & I went for a cruise for our HM & we had so much fun that we booked another one for Jan. IMO, they are a great way to see the Caribbean. I have been to several islands for a week and after a few day trips, it always feels like you have seen them all. A cruise is a nice way to hit several islands and see the hightlights. I agree with Rebecca tho, I don't think the food is all that amazing and think the food is overrated. But overall, they are, fun, relaxing, and great. For our honeymoon, we went to Aruba, St. Marteen. St. Thomas, Curacao, and Puerto Rico. Loved them all except St. Thomas. In Jan, we are going to St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua, St. Marteen, and St. Thomas.

Re: Cruises
cruises are awesome! The food is amazing...I suggest trying out Royal Caribbean and Princess, princess is an older crowd but has great good... I am going on Celebrity for my honeymoon because they had the itinerary we wanted...greece, turkey, italy...etc. I have heard good things about them as well! It is a great time, and as far as being sick, you can take bonine every morning whether you feel ill or not and it prevents any seasickness, and you can still drink. They also have the seasickness prevention bracelets, i hvae never used them though good luck deciding

Re: Cruises
I love cruises! We have done 3 since last August. The Carnival Legend is great...and leaves out of NY. If you do book a cruise, definitely get a room with a balcony. Good luck!

Re: Cruises
I've done 2 cruises and will be doing a 3rd for the HM.
Celebrity Went on a western caribbean cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Ochos Rios, Cozumel, Cayman Islands and Florida Keys. Service and food was excellent. Didn't like Jamaica...had a great time in Mexico.
Carnival Went on an Eastern Caribbean cruise from Miami to Nassau, St Thomas, Dominican Republic. lots of shopping in st thomas, loved the beach in Nassau and took a culture shock tour in DR.
HM will be taking the Carnival Liberty to Costa Rica, Panama and Cozumel.
I get bored easily and can't see spending a week at one island....I want to see it all!!!

Re: Cruises
I went to the Bahamas with Norwegian and to Cozumel and Grand Cayman with Carnival. Grand Cayman is awesome and so Cozumel. Norwegian was nicer but Carnival was A LOT of fun (a lot of younger people). Have fun where ever you decide to go!

Re: Cruises
Been on a couple now and my In-Laws swear by them every year! My fav so far has been Royal Caribbean. Loved the atmosphere, service, ship and its activities. Went on Princess last year and although food was good, it left a lot to be desired.
We've done the Southern, Eastern and Western Carib. so feel free to ask any questions. We're going to do the Panama Canal Cruise for the honeymoon. I just find cruising very relaxing and there is ALWAYS something for Everyone to do!

Re: Cruises
We have been on 15. It is our vacation of choice. Mostly around the Caribbean, and Royal lines, but Carnival is usually a younger group. A cruise is what you make of it, just like any other vacation. We love it because it is like a traveling hotel, you see a lot and don't have to unpack. When you choose pick by excursions offered. If there are things you like to do see if the ports have something that interests you. That way you are not dumped and a port with nothing to do. We especially like the 'rum punch boat tours' anywhere.

Re: Cruises
Cruises are not for me as I felt very seasick on both of the ones I went on. I took a lot of dramamine which helped, but it made me drowsy and out of it (for me, bonine, which is a non-drowsy medication, was awful and didn't work at all). However, if you don't get seasick, they're great. The food is good and the cruises offer great excursions. I went on a Disney cruise and a cruise to Alaska. The Alaska cruise is probably very expensive (my family paid for it so I'm not sure of the price), but Alaska is beautiful and a cruise is a great way to see it.

Re: Cruises
I love cruises and have been on 13. The best cruise lines IMO are Royal Carribean(Huge boats, alot to do, good food), Celebrity (My favorite, the food is the best and the boats are very classy), Princess ( THe food is good and they have the best pool areas), Holland America ( Really big rooms, beacause there are less passangers on the boat, foods good).
Carnival has some really nice boats, but the food is not as good as the other cruise lines. They do have a younger crowd and more activities, if your looking for that.
I just went on the Norweigan Dawn. While the food was really good, the boat was just okay. This boat went right out of New York and I don't reccomened this cruise for your HM. It doesn't stop at the best ports. Florida and Bahamas only. My parent have been on other NW cruises and said they had been great.
The best places to go on a cruise is Bermuda, Eastern carribean, Southern Carribean, Hawaii and Europe. THe west coast of Mexico is also very nice, if you don't mind flying to California.
Make sure you check out how big the boat is and how old it is. There are so many new boats, that there is no need to go on a very old one.
Hope this helps!!
