The price should be comparable. It's less work because you don't usually have filling.

i love the idea of the cupcake cake...but for some reason i feel like my guests would think it's weird. and FH doesn't like it.

FH didn't like it either. From what I hear from many people, they don't like the wedding cake. And I hear fondant which is often used for decorations isn't so good anyway. I think the cupcakes is fun, unique and tasty.... just like me!
