curious....

don't get all mad about this, just for fun. did you let your bm's pick the dress or did you? i let my moh (my sis) pick it b/c a) she is very bossy and if she hated it, she would not wear it and b) i'm not wearing it so why do i care...

Re: curious....

I had all of the girls get together and try on dresses. Thankfully they all agreed on the same dress and of course I gave the final go-ahead. It only took one shopping trip.

I picked the dresses I liked and then most of the BMs and I went to the bridal salon and tried it on. I wanted to make sure it was flattering on all of the girls.....so No, I did not let them chose.

Re: curious....

i emailed the girls different bm dresses i was interested in and they let me know what they wanted or preferred. when it was time to go try on dresses, we tried on the styles we had agreed upon collectively and when they decided what they liked best, i made the final decision.

i am picking a color (with their input) and designer - they are picking the dress... i figure they are NOT going to pick something that would look bad on them..

I went to look at dresses with my MOH first and she picked out a dress. Then what we did was pick out a bunch of other dresses that match hers so the BM's had a choice. When all the BM went to look at dresses they all liked the one my MOH picked out. We have the MOH and BM dress the same but different colors.

I presented options. If they all agreed on one dress, then great. If not and they preferred different dresses that was fine too just as long as they were the same fabric and designer. That was what we ended up doing.

Even though I think a BP should have an element of uniformity, my BP varies in age and size. No matter what anyone tells me, a woman who is a size 16 will NEVER look the same or even close to someone who is a size 2 even if the dress is made up to a size 30. If I didnt live both ends of the size spectrum myself, I'd probably think and say differently. I also feel that a 14 year old should never be dressed the same way as a 35 year old. They all got what was size and age appropriate for each of them and coincidentally (rather luckily), I loved each choice they made. They are happy and I am happy.

I picked out dresses I liked and then presented them to my girls. I narrowed it down to one I really liked and we went to the salon to try it on and compare it to other dresses. They ALL Loved my choice and that is what we are ordering. It all worked out. Thank God!!!!!

Re: curious....

This was the only part of my planning so far which created anxiety. Some of my BMs didn't want anything that showed their shoulders, i.e. strapless or spaghetti straps. So my sister and I shopped and shopped, and finally found something that I liked and my sister (MOH) liked. It was a tea length Lazaro and expensive. So we ended up going with the FIRST dress I saw that I liked which was cheaper. So I guess I really made the decision. But what a freakin runaround.

IMO, the less choice given to the girls, the better.

Re: curious....

My MOH/sister said 'I hate dresses, no matter what you pick I won't like it, because it's a dress, so I don't care.' My two BM both live in different states, and both said whatever I wanted was fine with them. I did an internet search, as well as looked at every BM dress ad in every magazine I could get my hands on. I picked what I liked, dragged my sister (kicking and screaming) to try them on, and then tried on the dress myself (my sister is essentially the same size as one BM, and I'm essentially the same size as the other). When I found dresses that I thought would look good on everyone, I emailed my OOT girls a picture with the name of the designer and had them try them on and take pics and email back to me.

Luckily for me, the dress I fell in love with at the very beginning looks good on all of them, and they like it (if not love it). After I got the last girl in the dress, I sent out an email giving them all one final opportunity to tell me they didn't like it and to find something else. Not one of them asked me to keep looking.

I did however ask them in the beginning if they had any particular preferences. They all said no strapless, and two of them can't wear a straight neckline - they need a V-neck, or scoop or sweetheart or something. I took that into consideration and the dresses have straps and no straight neckline.

Re: curious....

Well my BMs haven't really shown interest and I picked out the dress, BUT I know they will like it. Its flattering and they are all into the medeval thing in one way or another. Also the dress was under a $100 and they don't have to make it.

Re: curious....

i'm not gonna lie. i didn't really give them a choice. with 9 girls, it would have been hard. but they are all skinny and gorgeous and 'seemed' to love the 40's inspired dress i loved.

Re: curious....

I picked the color and the designer and they each picked a dress that they loved - they look gorgeous and it worked out so much better than i planned!! all of the older girls chose dresses w/ satin trains and complimentary styles and the junior bridesmaids chose chiffon dresses with empire waists!! They match perfectly!!! I'm so excited and its so nice that each one loves their dress and cant wait to wear it!!
