How many of you have lost weight on weight watchers, and actually kept it off, for good?

Re: Curious about weight watchers
i have been on it for just about 4 weeks. I have lost a little over 5 pounds and FI has lost a little over 12 pounds. So far so good. I havent gained anything and i really became aware of my eating habbits. i found a liking to the smart one desserts (where normally i would pass the smart ones and head right for the ben and jerry's)
and i feel really good. When i find out i loose i get all happy and excited and proud of myself
i have tried numerous diets and so far WW has been the best. i've actually lost and feel great about myself

That's great! The reason why I'm asking is that everyone I know who was on ww has gained the weight back as soon as they stop. I guess you can never stop.
My mother-in-law-to-be is on it, and so I'm curious about it

Re: Curious about weight watchers
The thing with WW is it's NOT really a diet. It's a change of eating habits that you should stick to for the rest of your life. There are days after you hit your goal where you can cheat, BUT you should always keep yourself on this new way of eating. I hope that makes sense. I can tell you that I was on it last year, lost 12lbs and gained it back because I just didn't care, now I've lost almost 7 and been on it for 3 weeks! This time I can't let it come back!
I lost 15 pounds...to my ideal weight...then I met DH...gained it back because it is a lifestyle change...and I went back to my old ways...
It does work if you are diligent...I went off maintance too quickly...

Re: Curious about weight watchers
Keep it up! What ever works I guess. I don't necesserily need to go on weight watchers, But it just seems like it's a diet that lets you have food that is bad for you, as long as you don't have too much of it. I read some of the packaging, and some of the stuff is loaded with sugar. I can't see how this is a good way to loose weight.
This is just an observation, I don't know much about it.
Do you know, without counting, how much food, and what types of food are healthy to eat without counting ww points?

Re: Curious about weight watchers
it definatly helps with eating habbits. before WW (i know i sound like an infomercial) i ate whatever i want, whever i want and as much of it as i liked. now i am more aware of what i eat, how much of things i eat and where i would normally eat a lot of ooey gooey greasy foods, now i am like do really want that. will that satisfy me?
there are days i'll cheat a litlte and have that extra cookie or that extra piece of cheese, but normally i have been relly good and sticking to what i eat.
brian my FI is on WW and its great having that support system. he has to eat more points then me so he does all the cooking. he does all the portions doing our diner plates. he really makes sure i stick to my points and that he sticks to his.
what i found to be really filling and sometimes make it seem you have a large dinner is i make a huge salad for myself. i feel like i have eaten so much when i really have eaten just a small plate.
i really became aware of my eating habbits and also found myself drinking a lot more water .

Re: Curious about weight watchers
Snowbrdgirl, in regards to your question about how much food is too much food:
That's kind of difficult to answer. I mean, you can eat vegetables all day and it won't be too much, but if you eat cupcakes all day, you know that's not right. I'm not sure what kind of answer you want. I'd love to help you out, but I'm a little confused.
I thought 1000-1500 calories a day is average, but then that's back to the counting thing.
Edited to say: Anything like celery sticks, salad, a turkey wrap are good to eat and anything home made is ALWAYS better than eating out, whether it's fast food or a restaurant. Things like - cakes, chocolate, pies, etc - those are bad (well for me anyway)

Good for you!
It all really depends on how much you want to stay healthy.
Good luck!!

Re: Curious about weight watchers
OctBride03, I was just curious about how it works, and if it works. It is not for me, but for my friends. I always try to get them to eat right, and exercise. They go on weight watchers, but they always gained it back.
It depends on the person, I guess.
Good luck to everyone

Re: Curious about weight watchers
i have one day out of 7 that i'll have a little extra on something. whether it be a cookie or a small piece of cake i dont want to say to myself no you cant have it, because i will want it more so what i do is i stay good all week and saturday night i treat myself to a nice bowl of breyers ice cream with fudge instead of smart ones dessert.
your told not to reward yourself with food, but its not a reward but more of a treat. so i look forward to saturdays because i weigh in saturday morning and saturday night i'll have a nice bowl of ice cream or i'll have a piece of cake.
all week brian does the cooking for dinner and i take a smart ones or lean cusine for lunch and breakfast is fruit and a cereal bar and its been going pretty well.
some days i get a little hungry but i munch on veggies.
so far out of everything i have tried, ww is really working

That's great!! Cheating is o.k once a week, but not more than that. Enjoy it then!! Just eat it really slow, so it lasts!

Re: Curious about weight watchers
And let's face it: Cutting something out of one's diet to lose weight - like going no or super low carb - is impractical for life change. 99% of people who try these diets do not stay on them for the rest of their lives simply b/c there are too many temptations and once you eat the food you cut out, you will gain right back.
With WW, you can eat anything on earth, but you have to remember that everything has a point value and that you have to 'pay to play' basically. So yes, you can eat total crap like sugar and pasta and grease and cheese and brownies etc...but it'll cost you. WHat WW is saying is have a little, don't have a lot. I know the second someone tells me I can't have something, I'll obsess until I get it. Unfortunately this holds true for men, clothing, and jewelry as well as food. So with WW, you can have everything, you just have to account for it. Keeps you honest....

Re: Curious about weight watchers
snowboardgirl: I started weight watchers and find it really hard to adhere to. I find that the points allocated to my weight level a bit too few... So I have slipped and trying to get back on track. I find it difficult, b/c I am used to thinking in calories and g of fat, not points, so to convert everything is hard. Portion sizing is unreasonable sometimes as well, as you can't get things in certain portions easily. I also find it difficult to be recording everything I eat.
I have lost only 2 lbs or so on WW, however, keep in mind that I am already in my 'ideal' weight range, so there is not a whole lot to be lost.
I think WW works if you make them part of your lifestyle. I also think that just by learning what's good/bad will help out some.
I would guess people who gain back the weight after finishing WW are those that either a) no longer keep track of what they eat or b) no longer keep track of sizing.
I also think that if a person ate 'normally' before WW without gaining weight, they should be able to come off of ww and eat in their normal amnts and stay the same weight, unless their metabolism slowed due to the dieting.
Sorry its so long.

Re: Curious about weight watchers
I lost 37 pounds on WW last year between November 2001 and February 2002. I would have continued, I had about 12 more pounds to lose, but then I found out I was pregnant. Now that the baby is 3 months old I feel ready to commit to counting points again so I rejoined.
I don't know about the WW frozen meals (which is what I am assuming you are talking about that has lots of sugar) because I don't really have them but I do know that if I was left to my own devices I would not eat many of the foods that I eat on WW. For example, I would not have pasta with sauce, I would not consider that a 'diet' food and wouldn't know how much I could eat and still lose weight. WW says I can have it and gives me guidelines so I have a decent portion. Same goes for pizza or fast food or sweets although for the most part I try to eat healthier because I get more bang for the buck with the points. I really love it because I have always been a yo-yo dieter and WW shows me how to eat right. When I was doing it last year, after being on the program for a few weeks, I got really good at knowing what the points were on meals or specific foods so it got alot easier. The hardest part was getting started with the measuring and looking up points. I also like the meetings, I get alot of ideas and suggestions there and it really helps keep me motivated. HTH

Re: Curious about weight watchers
Shamma, hillarious, and thank you for the compliment. And no I didn't send a representative there, it was me. I am trying to shrink inches rather than losing lbs, if that makes any sense. My clothing has been feeling a bit tight lately.
But it sooo cold outside that I haven't been to the gym in like 10 days!!! I need to get myself back to the buff brides regiment!!!

Re: Curious about weight watchers
I'm definitely a person you want to speak with.... On August 17, 2001, I began WW... I remember the day well.... I was 161 pounds..... On February 2nd, 2002 I stepped on the scale and was 118 pounds.... I have kept all but 4 pounds off in the last full year! I LOVE LOVE this diet and it is not weight watchers who did it. It was me! What I need to learn is that I need to take responsiblity for myself and what goes in my mouth.... It is my fault not WW if I gain and It is my glory when I lose, not WW.... don't know if that makes sense but I love my new look.
