Curly girls who straighten

Inspired by all the recent flat iron posts...

Which is faster - blow drying your hair straight or straightening it with the flat iron? I've never used a flat iron on my hair (I always just blow it straight) but now I'm considering it.

How do you dry it prior to using the flat iron?

Which do you think is more damaging to your hair - the blow dryer or the iron?

I use both. My hair is really curly so when i blow dry it doesnt come out as straight as it would with a flat iron.

i first blow my hair straight with a round brush. then i use a flat iron

I just blow dry. It takes about 20 minutes. I have tried using irons before but I wasn't impressed w/ the results. I think how long it takes depends on the amount of curl you have and the length. With me, the hair dryer was the best and most efficient.

i ACTUALLY BOUGHT A CORIOLIS FLAT IRON THAT STRAIGHTENS WET HAIR..IT WORKS GREAT,..BUT i WORRY ABOUT THE DAMAGE IT MUST DO..SO I USUALLY BLOW DRY IT FIRST, THEN STRAIGHTEN

I blow dry and then straighten my hair with the flat iron. It's the only way it works for my hair! =)

I used to blow dry and then iron but my hair is so dry that I needed to stop. I started washing my hair at night and letting it dry while I sleep and then ironing it. Sometimes I wash it in the morning, pull it back ancd let it dry all day at work. Then when I come home, I iron it. It works so much better like this and my hair does not look fried anymore.

i use both but i do it is sections. i put all my hair up and then take little sections blow dry them use the flat iron and straighten it. it works out great.

Dry then iron.

Iron does more damage for sure.

Yep, air dry for as long as I can, then blow dry with a big round brush. Then I maxi-glide..of course all with smoothing product and root lifter stuff.

I just blow dry it straight. I've never been able to get a straightening iron to work.
I also use a vent brush, not a round one because either I can't get the round one to catch my hair right and pull it straight, or, I get my hair totally tangled in it.
A few times when I was younger, my mom actually ironed it for me (with a clothes iron.) It came out sooo straight then.

Oh, and my hair is not quite 1/2 way down my back and pretty thick, and when air dried, it gets very curly, but it takes me about 15-20 mins to straighten with the hair dryer.

i have one of these too. its by remington, called 'wet2straight.' it takes longer than if your hair is already dry, but it works great.
