Curly Wedding Hair

Curly Wedding Hair

I want to wear my very curly (like Julianna Marguilies) hair curly for the wedding. Some stylists say they should straighten my hair and then curl it, others say they should just go over my curls (mimicking them) with a curling iron. Both camps say it is the only way my hair will stay.

What are your experiences?

Thanks

My mother (hair dresser for over 40 years) has always just dried my hair then used the curling iron. It depends on your hair... you should do some trials to make sure your hair will last. also, the iron being used, any products used... if your hair is clean or dirty, it all makes a difference.

I have curly hair but if you straighten mine and then curl it, it won't hold a curl to save its life. For me the best way is to follow the curl...but your hair may be different.

I'd try both and see which you like best and which lasts longer.

I am having my curls kept as my curls and then gone over with curling iron. Love my salon. They were Devachan trained and I never loved my hair until I met them!!!

my hair holds both... but i prefer the look of the curling iron to my naturally curly hair than to my straight hair... its looks fake to me the other way and i dont want to look like i got my hair done the day of... just like i threw it up somehow HTH

And my hair is exactly the opposite!

I agree, try both and see what works better.

Re: Curly Wedding Hair

I did my hair myself on the day of (ouidad style) and then she went over my curls and softened them up and loosened them with a curlying iron.

I suggest going to a trial with someone who will work with curly hair and spend hours on it.

I might have trial pics in my album..I was very happy with my hair

Thank you all! I was especially curious because I am beginning to think that people who want to straighten your hair first are not used to curly hair.
I've had three trials so far and I am not very happy. The only one who did my hair in a way I liked, is a package deal and I didn't like the makeup.

This my new favorite site, everyone is so helpful

PS Almost a Wife, I saw your pictures - you looked amazing!

Thank you.

I highly recommend Nicole D'Angio. She spends a couple of hours on your trial and really was able to work with my curls.

I also recommend Ouidad and her products. My hair has never looked so good in my life. They really show you how to style your hair.

dont straighten! the straightner is way hotter than the curling iron and you will neverrr get the curls! My best expierience was to blow dry my hair straight then get the curls! I hope this helps!

Well, I'd definitely NOT use a straightener, but you can straighten with a brush and hairdryer and give it a curl with that, and then the curling iron will just accentuate it. Also, ALL of this works better on hair that's a little more dirty. Do I want dirty hair on my wedding day?!

Oh okay i get it i thought you meant to put a straightening iron and i was like NO i did that once and i couldnt get the curl back in my hair. Yes definitely try to put a lot of volume into it by blow drying it with a round brush so that the end has a natural flip to it and then put the curls in. it wont be dirty, hair works better the next day after you wash it and it retains its natural oils that the blow dryer and products strip out, so just wash it the night before and blow it out then touch it up in the morning.

Devachan and Oidad are the two salons/philosophies of curly hair. Devachan is Curly Girl. You can go to the website CLICK HERE! and click find a salon where the stylists have been trained to cut/style curly hair. I go to Evolutions in West Babylon and looove Allison. (If you go, let me know b/c we both get a referral discount).
