CUSTOM GOWN- YIKES!!

CUSTOM GOWN- YIKES!!

Okay, ladies, I definitely made the decision to design my dress myself, and have it made. I am seriously freaking out!! I went for my measurements on Tuesday (I can't believe there were THAT many things to measure. If you want diet motivation, I highly suggest getting your measurements taken. I almost threw myself out the window!), and had to give them a deposit yesterday.

I gave them all my ideas, and they're sending me a sketch this week. I'll post it when I get it. After I handed them my deposit, I really got scared. They explained that they had just done a 'Platinum Weddings' episode, and I felt better. Do you believe that? Suddenly affiliation with WE TV wedding shows gives me comfort. My self respect is in shreds.

Wish me luck- I'm really going all out on this one. It's okay- the economy is fine, and who needs a home, anyway??

lol I am sure it will be fine, just stick to what you want and don't compromise. This is your special dress. It will be fine just as long as you keep to your original design and don't go second guessing yourself and changing things a million times. That is when you stress yourself out and wind up hating it in the end.
As long as you tell them what you want and YOU like it from the beginning, it should be fine. :) I can't wait to see it!

I am sure that it will come out great. How long until you go in for your first fitting. Think about how special it will be when you put your dress on knowing that you designed it yourself.

good luck with your gown. Dont cut any corners to get your dress made like that girl on bridezillas who hated her custom made dress.

You mean the blue one?

You ladies are the BEST!

But wait- you didn't like the Blue Bridezilla dress??? I was using that as my sketch!!

Seriously, though- that dress was priceless. I mean, it should have had no price (I guess it didn't, as she basically just walked out with it!). I cannot believe someone could manage to make a girl that thin look like she had been pregnant for 6 months.

Anyway, if the dress comes out badly, I figure I can just take the fabric and sort of drape it around me, and I can start a new Wedding Toga trend.

I think the reason I'm so concerned is that I went to a bridal place a few months ago (in Philadelphia) and they said they would make me a copy of a phenomenal Jim Hjelm dress for $900. The original was $3600. I was so excited, I almost went for it. Then I asked if I could see any pictures of her work, and she proudly showed me a wall of the most frightening prom dresses EVER (think Beyonce in the VERY early days). Needless to say, I thanked her and left. Scary.

The strange part is, I actually did fall in love with a dress. It was only $499 (!), and I LOVED it. The only thing was, I couldn't try it on in my size, and my boobs are large and in charge. So how do I know that when the dress comes in in my size, the cleavage isn't insane?? There is no way to know, I guess. My mom was so petrified by the prospect of this that she practically forced me to have it made. Frankly, I didn't want to be all 'Juggs McGillicuddy' walking down the aisle, either. I just hope it works.

Thanks for all your kind words! I love you guys.

OMG, (WHERE IS MY VOMIT SMILEY) that dress was like the prom dress from hell, nevermind a freaking wedding dress lol

btw, showing the girls off is never a bad thing as long as it's done with class lol

They shouldn't have a problem if they measured you correctly. I would think having a dress made would be easier than buying one from the manufacturer. It should fit likea freaking glove!

That's what I'm hoping for. If I ordered it, there was no way to know. If I have it made, the girls should be fine.

And a vomit smiley would be perfect!! Those smileys crack me up. What is that last one in the bottom right corner when you post? It looks like the smiley is eating stuff next to the head of a bearded man with a headband. What's going on there??
