Cute way to win centerpieces?
We're giving our centerpieces away at the reception and I was looking for a unique/cute way to have someone 'win' them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance :)

I've seen a penney or something put under one plate and that person wins the centerpiece. Or you could have the DJ ask who at each table has the closest anniversary to the wedding day or closest birthday to the wedding day. Things like that.

Cute way to win centerpieces?- What we did..
We had the DJ annouce that the person with the closest birthday to your wedding day at each table wins the centerpiece!...sounds fair enough..and it worked.

I like the 'hot potato' thing. The music plays and when it stops, the person holding whatever you are going to pass around (a napkin usually works) wins the centerpiece. Lisa

I think I would go with the hot potato or the bithday one. Not everyone has an anniversary BUT everyone has a birthday. I think that''s more fair.

Cute way to win centerpieces?
I was at a wedding and the MC asked someone to take out a dollar...we passed that around the table and it stopped at me...I was all excited..until they told me I lost...and could not play anymore...they did it again and the person who it landed on...got to keep the dollar, and the person who gave the dollar initially won the centerpiece... I haven't decided what to do yet?

I heard that before
I've seen the birthday thing before. Once every table decides who has the birthday closest to the wedding date, the MC announced, 'OK, the person to your left has just won a beautiful centerpiece!' It was kind of funny.

another idea
I was at a wedding where they gave it to the guest who had traveled the farthest to get there.

We may use lotto tickets as our favors and if we do, the person who wins the most on their ticket will get to take it home!

Our giveaway .. (and some thoughts)
We did sort of a twisted hot potato passing a napkin around. When the music stopped, the person to the right (or left, I can`t remember) was the winner. In our final weeks of planning we had forgotten to mention to our DJ, Eddie, exactly what we wanted to do, so the night of, this was what we ended up doing. It was fun! We didn`t really want to do the birthday thing, figuring it could get tricky. Maybe I was over thinking this, but if someone`s birthday is a month before the wedding, and someone`s birthday is a month after the wedding, who gets the ceterpiece? As for using the same idea only based on anniversary .. as already pointed out .. this could be trouble as there will always be single guests at the reception. PrincessBride .. not to knock your idea with the lottery tickets .. but couldn`t this also get complicated if you have people with the same 'highest' winnings on their ticket? Or, wouldn`t it be nice if the person with the 'lowest' winnings got the centerpiece. Afterall, the person with the highest winnings is already going home with more winnings. Those are just my thoughts. No harm meant in them .. and like I said, sometimes I just overthink things and make them more complicated than they should be. Sorry! ;)

Thats Okay! Yeah I guess you could do the lowest winnings too but if you know scratch off tickets, you dont win MUCH adn you dont win OFTEN! Most of them are only dollar (one/two/five dollar) winners....We are going to be buying between 100-250 lotto tickets (1 win for life and maybe a 1-$1 scratch off for each person) so we are hoping to have many winners. I would imagine that we will have a winner at every table-but also many losers at each table as well. We aren't 100% for using the idea yet so all feedback is appreciated!
