cutting corners

Just curious to see what everyone elses ideas are. Where are you cutting corners if any?? We are planning on the flowers and invites. We went all out on the reception so we are trying not add extra expenses in other areas..

We cut back on a few things such as:

Invitations. We ordered them online and since we are getting married at rh we only ordered invites & response cards - skipped the lined envelopes and picked a simple invitation. Not overlay or ribbons added.

We are not adding extra flowers to ceremony since it is outside at RH.

We kept favors simple - a donation and CDs fh & I are burning ourselves.

I shopped smart for favors - i found them to be soo expensive!

Used burtons for flowers - got what i wanted within budget

Researched BEFORE doing anything DIY to make sure it was actually was worth it

Didnt worry about designer shoes or anything like that - went with what i liked - im not afraid to use a dollar store for accents or hit a payless, or get DIY things in walmart

Dont think of it as cutting corners - its SMART shopping!

where did you go for favors??

Re: cutting corners

Our placecards doubled as favors and they were fairly cheap.

We used the RH cake instead of getting it from somewhere else.

We cut down a 2nd photography location so that we wouldnt need the limos as long.

We didnt do cry packs, slipper basket, I Do letters and all the other LIW DYIs.

I was ontime...cutting out overtime fees for the church, photographer, limos, and DJ.

I didnt do a expensive honeymoon. It was nice but I found good deals.

I forgot we are also using RH cake...we can pick what we want so that is a plus.

and we are using RH flowers just adding some candles.

We are not doing any of this either. We also did cupcakes instead of a huge wedding cake. It turned out to be a lot cheaper.

Re: cutting corners

we got the basic/cheapest package for ALL of our vendors. we didnt splurge at all. the only thing that is extra is the raw bar we're having at the reception.

not doing cry packs, slipper baskets, calligrapher, petal cones, we do letters, etc

negotiated my dress and veil down in price.

lol ok i just re-read what i wrote and it makes me sad that we are cutting corners everywhere and this wedding is STILL costing us an arm and a leg!

Re: cutting corners

another thing is there is alot of wedding accessories that i found the be redundant and a waste - thatll just be thrown out

crypacks and petal cones will be tossed for example -

You should make a list for yourself of whats important and not important toyou. Walk away from it and revisit it in a few days once you thought about it - and the use that list as to what u might want to compromise on in terms of pice or name brands for example - what you need and dont need, and what you cant live without!

Re: cutting corners

and my mom who has beautiful handwriting and cursive addressed allll my invites - if you have a friend or family member who can do that - its worth it!

I had my BP over and we had pizza and did the invites and it was fun!

Re: cutting corners

Dont feel bad..we pretty much splurged on the RH, photographer, videographer and DJ package....thats why I have to cut back on everything else. I wish I could cut back on limos but my church is at 1:00 and reception is not until 6

Re: cutting corners

I cut corners by creating my own centerpieces. But I am doing what i wanted anyway- just doing it myself rather than paying someone.

I didn't go crazy on invites so i cut corners there too.But I was able to find exactly what I wanted.

I am not doing calligraphy...I guess if I had someone to do it for free I would..lol!!

Re: cutting corners

i try not to get anything with 'wedding' attached to it...our unity candle is a hurricane holder from pier 1 and for our sand ceremony we're using a decanter from the outlets!
