We have to cut down our list. And I need some help.
We have 283 on the list and the place can hold a max of 240. What was the percentage of people that did not attend? We don't have many out of towners so I think most people should be able to attend. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?? FMIL wants all cousins invited with dates which I don't agree with. How do I bring this up tactfully? what to do? We already eliminated co-workers and not-close friends.

I'm in the exact same boat. My place only holds 240, too! Don't know what I am going to do.

Re: Cutting down the guest list
I have a similar dillemma. They say 20% of your guest don't come but I really don't believe it's that high. I say figure like 10% no shows and pray, LOL!!!
Really, if you HAVE to cut back I say NO '& Guests'. There is no tacful way of doing it you just don't write it on the invite and if they ask just explain it politely. Good luck!!!

Re: Cutting down the guest list
I'd say you have to prepare that everyone you invite may come - don't rely on statistics of no-shows. If you have to cut the list to fit the room, start with people you're not as close to or that you don't think you'll still keep in touch with in 5 years from now. Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think we will assume about 10% and hope for the best.

We had 30% who couldn't attend. We knew that because a lot of them were out of the state.

Re: Cutting down the guest list
I would say tell your family & his that they each need to cut X number of people or put them on a b list. just tell them thats how it has to be & let them decide who to cut.

Re: Cutting down the guest list
how about people from work? Typically they are cut first. Or put on the 'B' list -
Have an A and B list - send out the invites early and if you get a lot of no responses, and have room, send invites to some folks on the B list.
For me, the first people to go were people I work with, unfortunately, I would have loved to have them there but just can't afford it.
