Re: Dad not in attendance for wedding
My dad is attending my wedding but when my Aunt and Uncle got married, her father didn't come so her mother walked her up the isle and she danced with her step dad.. Did you consider having your mother walk you, brother (if you have one) or a cousin or uncle?

Hello Ladies,
For those who's father can not attend the wedding... what do you do?
I had two friends in this predicament. The first friend's father died when she was 16. She had her mom walk her up the aisle and they did father/daughter dance. It was sweet and not as weird as it sounds. The second friend's father was in a hospice due to a massive stroke. She had her brother walk her up the aisle and dance the father/daughter dance with her. In that case they danced to 'Dance with my father again' by Luther Vandross. Not a dry eye in the house!
Find someone special that can take Dad's place. It will still be meaningful and memorable.

Re: Dad not in attendance for wedding
Just reading the fact that girls are dancing with their brothers to 'Dance with my Father Again' brought me to tears. That is soo sweet and appropriate.
With that said...I also think a bride walking herself down is very modern and totally accepted. You can possibly do a son/mother & mother/daughter dance together. We were just at a wedding that did this and it was awesome. Half way through the bride started dancing with her new MIL and the groom started dancing with his new FIL...it was very cute and memorable!

Re: Dad not in attendance for wedding
my father passed away in '04 so my brother walked me down the aisle and i skipped the father/daughter dance all together. DH danced with his stepmom and during their dance, i asked his father to dance with me but that was about it.

Re: Dad not in attendance for wedding
I have never had a relationship with my father and would have loved for my mom to walk me down the isle, but she does not want anything to do with my wedding. MY best friend will be walking me down, he was so excited and thought it was an honour for me to ask him

Re: Dad not in attendance for wedding
My father passed away in 2003. I am having my Nephew who is 19 walk me down the aisle. I don't have any brothers or uncles that I am close with. This was my Best choice.

Re: Dad not in attendance for wedding
my father passed away in 2006. so i'm having my mother walk me down the aisle. i was planning on having them both walk me down anyway. i'm also planning on dancing with my mother at the reception.
if you are close with your mother or have a brother or close uncle or other family member that you would be comfortable with. i have a few uncles, but none that i'm super close with. that's why i'm doing everything with my mom. i wouldn't have it any other way at this point. HTH
