DAD question

ok this is going to be kinda long but i need you girls help or thoughts

i havent seen my dad in several years like 5 or 6 years, i would say we are kinda both to blame but its more of his. My dad last i known his was a great guy but unfornately got into drinking and doing drugs heavily, his current gf at the time tried to help him along with me and my sister, but after months and months he relapsed 2 times, i was in hs and thought i had better things to do them deal with him, well after the several relapses his then gf gave up and couldnt handle it anymore, ( which i cant blame her) her them went throught several girlfriends and finally as a last straw my aunt who lives in rhode isalnd took him in to help me, during this time i started to back away bc after seeing him in detoxic was more then i could handle and told him that when you are ready for help please let me know, we are here. Well we went to my aunts house and from what we hear has done very well ( we dont really talk to his side of the family and even thought they live in the same town its very hard to get any info from them, i know this sounds dumb, but my dads mom was mad my dad married my mom bc she was italian0

anyway several yrs after past and i recebntly got married and as from what i know so has he, not once has he ever tired to contact us and i dont know if its bc he doesnt want anything to do with us or if he is embrassed or if it has anything to with my mom, he still owes my mom 12,000 in child support, my sister and i tell her just to stop we no longer need the money i am 25 and my sister is 30 just call it a lost buts she bitter to what he did to her and wont 9 my dad cheated on my mom several times, but he was NEVER a bad dad)

well i am getting older and think i want to try and contact him but am afraid to get hurt, i was thinking about sending a letter and a few pictures of my wedding to my grandmas in hope she will give it to him

should i do this or no

Re: DAD question

i think u should do whatever is in your heart, and dont let other people's opinions influence your decision even your closest family members.

Re: DAD question

I've been in a similar situation, not with my dad, but with another family member. I choose to get back in touch and you know what? I was burned and hurt again. But I forgave again and kept letting them know I was here to support them (emotionally) in their very difficult DAILY battle to stay clean.

I say do what your heart tells you. You don't want to regret not reaching out to him. He may not want anything to do with you, but at least you know you did what you felt was right.

Re: DAD question

I think you should. You wouldnt be asking if you didn't want to. Do what you feel you need to do and know that there are people who love you and will support you and be there for you no matter what the outcome is.
