So I will try to keep this short. My dad had lived in California for as long as I can remember and we have been as close as we could be considering...Its kind of platonic. I have never asked him for anything really except to help pay for college which he could not do but said he would help out when I got married. When I got engaged he said he will try to help out. Well, I called him today and asked if he would like to put some money toward my dress. Without even asking how much I would need he said that he couldn't. I know the economy is horrible but I'm a little upset. He always talks about trips he goes on etc, he's never been good with money. I would just think its your daughetrs wedding and you'd want to no? FH is telling me to say something but I cant...its to hard for me. Should I send an email? Ive decided he's not walking me...my mom has stuggled her whole life to provided for me...she deserves the honor.

Re: Daddy issues
This is obviously very tough. I mean, he did promise to help you out. When you called him did you mention that? 'remember when yo u said you wouldn't mind helping me out?, well can you help me out with paying for my dress?' . However, I have learned not to trust anyone. MY mother in law said she was getting 10,000 from her old boss after he sold the business. She said she was going to put that towards the wedding. It turned out he only gave her about half, and she never mentioned putting that towards the wedding, so I have learned not to trust what people promise you.
Unfortunately for you, it was your own father. I am sorry he did that to you. Maybe you could call him or email him and just let him know that you were upset. I mean , he is your father. You should be able to talk to him like that no?

Re: Daddy issues
Your situation ***** but it could be worse. My friends dad is crazy and has major issues. He said he would give her money and didn't. She kind of expected that so it didn't upset her. The really bad part was that he can't handle being around her mom because they are separated so he didn't come to her wedding. She also sort of thought that could happen but we didn't know until the day of if he would show up or not. In the end, it was better for her because she wasn't stressed about their being a scene... and she realizes that her dad has problems so she accepted it even though it still *****. So yeah, I completely understand how upset you would be because I would be too.... but I thought I would share her situation because it doesn't make yours seem so bad...

Re: Daddy issues
i dealt with this too....unfortunately my father was father of the year untill i turned 16...after that, he fell into a downward spiral of addictions & abandoned my family by the following year. It was really hard for me because my father was my 'daddy' my entire life...and then BOOM..outta nowhere this all happened. I did involve him in my wedding....he walked me down the aisle but i had my mother give me away. I danced with him, but I danced with my mother as well.
my father didn't drop a dime on our wedding. the hubby & i paid and my struggle-ing mother did what she could. Unfortunately since my father has issues & addictions, i knew where his money and priorities were going....but i was also aware that it was just that..ADDICTIONS..it wasn't something intentional that he wanted to do/not do..so the only thing i could do was love him and try not to take it to heart. He knows that it hurt me...i've mentioned it a few times, my mother has talked to him, and he has mentioned things as well. Unfortunately the situation was what it was...and HE has to live with that for the rest of his life...not me. Now obviously your situation is different then mine....but in any case, If ur really hurt by it, i would write him a letter that way you can get everything out...or even call him if u can handle talking about it & truly saying what u feel. Try not to argue or have mean intentions... do it in love, and let him know why it's hurting you...that's it's not just about being mad about money..but that u're truly let down. maybe he'll have an explanation??

If you think it'd make you feel better to say something, and that he's worth saying something to, I'd send him an email. Then you can say what you need to, send it, and be done with it. Some people are just like this unfortunately, they can only have enough time and money to help themselves.
I do have to say that your mom will be thrilled to walked you down the aisle and I think that is a fabulous idea to give her the recognizition she deserves!!
