Be strong!! Just take a step back and determine what you REALLY need. You can have a great party without too many fancy things. It's great if you can but don't lose sight of why you are there and that your guests and YOU are having fun! I personally think you need good photos to remember the day by and a good DJ to keep it fun and your great venue will provide awesome food and drinks... but whatever is most important to YOU is what you focus on!

Video is def one of things I thought I would have to live without because of budget...but my photographer recommended a videographer and they turned out to be amazing and the price for the work they do is amazing! FM me if you want more info.

Video is so expensive bcuz u want cinematic. If its that important to u to have that then u will likeky have to stretch your budget. I had originally wanted cinematic also, but after seeing how expensive it was I was like no way. I set a 5k budget for photo and video and I was determined to stick to it! There are great videographers out there who arent cinematic and still do beautiful videos.

But like Shanti said, focus on what is most importan to u. Dont splurge on everything. It is so easy to get carried away and want all the extras. U have to set your priorties and be strong to sticking to it. Its tough though.. I know lol

This is so true. And everyone is different. Video means the world to us. We are even getting 12 hours of video...the raw footage on an external hardrive because FH wants to make a volume set to leave for our kids. LOL And yes, we will sit for 12 hours and watch everything!! But for me photos weren't such a big deal but ONLY because FH is a photoshop genius. See, having a good photographer that takes the key photos is important but ALLLLL that money they charge is for editing. That takes skill and hours. The real pictures they take dont look that great...they edit them in photoshop just liek a magazine so they look perfect so guess what I am spending on photos? $550! We have an awesome photographer who is giving us all of the unedited pics (and he is even editing 100 of them) and then the ones we choose for albums and frames later will be edited by FH. They are all high res on disc so there will be no problem.

The money I saved on this gave me a great 'extras' budget for entertainment like cocktail hour and the cigar roller. Try and save money SOMEWHERE, ANYWHERE. I also saved money by sending EVERY florist pictures of the centerpieces, BM bouquets and my bouquet so they could quote me exactly on what I wnated. And I mean EVERY florist. I know I sent an email to 60 florists at least! I don't care...email is free. I just keep forwarding the same email. Limos...same thing...just kept emailing! And negotiate..if you get a cheaper quote then tell the vendor you really want and you will see $$$ coming off! My cousins wife is a makeup artist...free makeup! Know someone who does hair? know anyone who knows someone who does something? Ask your friends too...there are tons of vendors not even mentioned on this site that really are good!

OH yeah..i almost forgot...go to Free Expos...you can win things for free. Did you know that every bride and groom who go to a Boscos Expo get a free matching pair of wedding bands at a $600 value? I won a free dj package at TWOTY. Also, I believe LI weddings has an expo in April of every year. Last night someone won a free honeymoon and wedding dress at an expo we went to. Check them out...they give some great discounts at these expos too. 10% or 20% off coupons are a big difference sometimes!!

Well said Lily! That is awesome about your photos! I used to mess around with photoshop and try to teach myself things but then life got in the way and I never continued. Wish I did cuz I would so be editing my own photos also! Lol

Yeah I am really lucky that he has that skill. It really saved us a lot. It depends on what people are really into. I knew I wanted good food, fun things (photobooth and cigars) and an awesome video so thats really what we focused on. I love my flowers too but I am just glad people can take home something nice. I couldnt see spending a ton on flowers because after that day thats it...they are gone! Sometimes people are really picky though and I know every bride is but sometimes thats when you go over budget. I bet the day comes and we will all wish we hadnt spent so much money or time or stress on a certain item! LOL

Re: Damn blew my budget

This is definitely true about photos but I HAVE to say that FH knows a little about photography and if your photographer knows what they are doing with lighting, etc., there doesn't need to be much photoshop... Of course, many things are highly edited depending though what you ask for. But it's true - you can fix many many things by editing so you can save $ there, then go for it!

That's why it's great there are so many options! To one person, video is more important, to me, I wanted to be comfortable with the photographer's skill. And my hair stylist... he can charge a lot but it's non negotiable, I LOVE him!! lol!

Re: Damn blew my budget

I won my wedding dress at an expo. The great thing about working on things this early in the game is that you can shop around and go from one vendor to another. By doing my own save-the-dates and invites, I am saving HUNDREDS!!!!! that money is going towards getting mead brought in for our toast. My headpiece is literally half of what I originally found it for. I am also borrowing my cousins veil. It does double duty. It's my something borrowed AND saving me money. We aren't doing floral centerpieces, once again saving HUNDREDS! my centerpieces total are costing under $300 and thats for 21 tables! It adds up.

My latest project to bring money to the table is collecting soda cans and bottles from my co-workers who don't recycle. It adds up! This past week alone I wound up with over $6. It doesn't sound like much, but times that by 52 weeks in a year and its $312!!! That just paid for my centerpieces. Every little bit helps.

I think i'm just very picky! and i dont wanna settle on something that isnt part of my ' Victorian blush chic' decor. I like paticular dress, i want a certain kind of flowers......so damn picky!!! ....But I most pick what is priority to me.....I have alot of rearranging to do.

Soo I booked a regular video package but now I keep seeing these gorgeous cinematic videos and I dunno what to do!!! Can anyone give me quotes on about how much cinematic video costs? I'm hoping that once I hear the price, I will realize its too much.

Re: Damn blew my budget

it's all about quality, some cost as much as 2800 or more, you can find a reasonable one for 2k.( not AJ quality though).
