FH and I are thinking of taking classes for our first dance and also to leanr how to get our hips shaking for some latin music we hope to have at our wedding.
Any girls out there take lessons? Did you take private lessons or group? Did you have to do a 'wedding program' or did you just take lessons?
These are a couple of places I have heard of- anyone know anything good or bad about them?

Re: Dance Lessons??
I convnced DH to take dance lessons about a month before the wedding and it was a great experience.
We used Dance New York (244-250 W. 54th Street, 5th Floor, NY, NY 10019 (next to Gold’s Gym); 212-246-5797; www.dancenewyork.com), and our instructor was Luci, who was SOOOOO patient with us.
We did 6 private lessons (originally it was 5 lessons but we added another just to get some more instruction time), 45 minutes each lesson, specifically to create a dance routine for our first song, but you could just take 'regular' lessons or join a class if you want. I just want to point out that even though the routine was geared for our first dance, the elements and figures we learned can be applied to any dance.
Our guests absolutely LOVED our dance...they're still talking about it! I enjoyed some 'together time' with my then fiance the month before the wedding, which was the busiest time for us...it gave us a chance to talk about things on the ride to and from the dance studio. And DH secretly enjoyed learning to dance, too, although he won't admit it.

Re: Dance Lessons??
Arthur Murray has been around FOREVER!! Personally it's not so much about the school.. it's about the specific teacher. It can be the most run down school but if the teacher is awesome then that's all that matters. Check on craigslist too. It will probably be cheaper if you don't go through an actual school.
Depending on what level you both start out at a group lesson would be fine and would save a lot of $. FH and i are going to take them (for swing actually) and he never dances and i dance and teach dance. So the group is fine for us cuz i'll make him practice at home lol.
Private lessons are good if you both are really at the beginner stage and need basic instuctions but they can be more $$.

Re: Dance Lessons??
FH used to work at You Should be Dancing part time...he also took lessons there and he loves the place. He bought us a package of 10 lessons for Christmas. He refused to take lessons anywhere else. We are planning to start our lessons in May so I personally have not taken classes there yet.
Hey I just noticed that we are getting married on the same day!

Re: Dance Lessons??
We took our lessons at New York Wedding Dance, Gail was our instructor. The people there are great, they're a little family. The lessons were the best decision we made!
