Is anyone taking dance lessons? I have been asking FH to take them and he has been ignoring me since the day we got engaged, but all of a sudden he is telling me that we need to start taking lessons. (I am the one with the 2 left feet, FH is amazing).
Is anyone taking lessons? Where are you taking them? What do you wear?!!!
PS -- I am all about questions today-- (finally taking a break from work and focusing on wedding related events)

Re: Dance Lessons
FH and I would like to take lessons also, but we haven't looked into places yet.
I think you just need to wear heels so you get used to the dance with heels on.

Re: Dance Lessons
You can wear heals if you like. Suggestion, dont' wear them to the first couple of classes. Get used to the footwork first and once you get a hang of that then change into heals.
FH i have taken them before but we have no time right now to go. (not that he's complaining)
Oh, you also just wear jeans and a shirt. Wear layers cuz you will get hot.
Here's a tip, my FH is much more psyched to take dance classes after we watch dancing with the stars. He always says, 'I wanna do thaaat.' But after time go by w/o watching it he totally forgets about it lol.

Re: Dance Lessons
I keep telling FH we're going to take dance lessons and he keeps laughing at me. But he needs them because in his words, he can:
'Dance the funky chicken like nobody's business.'

Re: Dance Lessons
OK thanks girls! I was originally thinking about going to a group lesson to test it out first, but now I think the one on one might be a good way to start out. We haven't agreed on our first song yet, and we also want to learn how to swing dance.
Adriana - do you think if i wear leggings and flats and a tank (and layers) I will be ok for the first few lessons? Do I buy dancing shoes after? Do i need dance shoes?
Laura -- tell FH he already got a hulk ice sculpture -- no funky chicken!!!

You don't need to buy dance shoes. If they try to talk you into it just ignore them lol. Flats are fine, just make sure that they have a good sole. You don't want to go slipping and sliding all over the place. Once you get comfortable with the steps either use your wedding shoes or something with the same heal hight. That should be fine. Leggings, flats and a tank is fine.

Re: Dance Lessons
I would love to take lessons... we'll see. If we do it We'll start after Christmas.
Wear something similar to your dress in cut... so you can get used to dancing with a long skirt on.

Re: Dance Lessons
We are taking lessons with John from Ballroom Dance Long Island in Carle Place. its an hour long session each time, and we are learning a routine for our first dance, and also the 'social dances' (foxtrot, swing, rumba).
We usually wind up going in whatever we wore to work that day, dont dress up an anything special.
If you are wearing heels for your wedding though, I would recommend wearing similar height heels to practice in, so you get used to it.

Re: Dance Lessons
I just called the place near our apartment and they offer a private lesson package for $395 which includes 5 - 1 hour classes. They also offer group lessons which they offer every wednesday and are $14pp but you do not receive concentrated attention.
The guy suggested taking a few group lessons (only if we both enjoy dancing and are slighly coordinated) and then start taking the private lessons 6 months prior once every 2 weeks.
The group lessons are for an 1 1/2 hours. The type of dance they teach changes monthly. This month it is salsa and the cha cha.
I have not called any place else -- does anyone know if the private lessons are expensive?

Re: Dance Lessons
FH and I are taking lessons... we signed up for a few packages... I think the first one was $215 for 3 private lessons and one group lesson... and then the second package was $750 for 6 group, 6 private and 6 'party' sessions...
