Is anyone taking dance lessons? If so, where and how much? Did you just practice a specific first dance song or in general?

Re: dance lessons
How did you find out about dance lessons at the middle school? Do you call them ? I looked into Arthur Murray and thought it was too much.

Re: dance lessons
We are going to Starr Dance studios in Melville and Lindenhurst. It is not cheap!!! The more lessons you buy the cheaper it is and if you go with another couple you can split the cost of the hour. I think it is about $70 an hour but we split it with my dad.
We are learning the Fox trot ( for slow songs) and swing (always wanted to do that). I'm glad we are taking it though because FH has two left feet and I used to not like dancing with him and now we have so much fun!

Re: dance lessons
We got an adult education bulletin in the mail from the East Northport school district. I start golf lessons tonight!! The Ballroom Dancing instruction is Wednesday nites for 1hr, 5 sessions only $45 a couple!! FIgured since it was so reasonable even if it's not the amount of 'attention' we require it was a cheap way to get started.

Re: dance lessons
we waited too late to go to the adult continuing education at the high school and went to arthur murray the intro package was half off $200 but then after the first four lessons to continue was going to cost way too much. so we arent continuing and are going to practice what we learned so far. but you have a lot of time, do it early - get the info b/c the classes are only offered at certain times. good luck. it was fun though!!

Re: dance lessons
We are taking lessons at Arthur Murray. We think it is pricey, but FH really enjoys it and he thinks it is good for us to have a shared activity. I ride horses, he golfs, we take dance lessons together.

Re: dance lessons
i think 3 months is plenty of time. i am trying to get a lesson NOW 5 weeks before the wedding so we know a little bit for our 1st song. i think i'm going to this place in port jeff station. don't remember how much - but private lessons are available and the price is reasonable. FM me if you want more info. i don't have the paper in front of me.

Re: dance lessons
We tried to take it at a local adult ed, and it was AWFUL. I got SCREAMED at by the dance instructors, who were these 2 really old people teaching it, and they would have the girls spinning all nite, I had to take bonine before I went, we quit after about 5 lessons, and are going to go to Arthur Murray or something similiar to it. Mind you, I used to take dancing lessons till I was 18, and this was not fun, and it was horrible. I hope the new dance lessons will be better!

Re: dance lessons
For all who are taking dance lessons, don't waste the money....seriously. Once you enter that room and get prepared for the first step, it all goes out the window. I've been to too many weddings where the couple took lessons....only to be heckled by the bridal party and giggled and teased by the guests, that it all goes out the window.

Re: dance lessons
that's so terrible! i can't believe they'd do that.
the place in setauket/port jeff (2 studios) is $70 for a 1 hour private lesson. he's pretty good.

Re: dance lessons
I'm bummed! We've missed two of our lessons - migraine one week and major sinus infection this week. I can only speak for this adult ed class and while the instructor and his wife are a little odd, there has been no yelling or spinning!! All in all, for the price (even with missing 2 of the 5 sessions) it has been well worth it and fun.
