Dance Lessons - NYC

I know this has been asked before but I can't seem to find specific names or phone numbers...we are looking to take a few dance lessons - maybe 6 in total - somewhere in NYC, preferably on the westside or convenient to Penn Station. Stef had emailed me the info for her instructor but I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Re: Dance Lessons - NYC

We're taking lessons with www.shall-we-dance.com, a downtown based couple who has their own private studio.

We have also taken sample lessons with Fred Astaire on 25th street (http://www.fredastairenyc.com/) with a lady named Jami Josephson (which were also good) and had taken a group lesson at Dancesport (www.dancesport.com).

I don't recommend dancesport, b/c I found the studio to be extremely busy, which is not what you want when you're taking private lessons. Fred Astaire was a little smaller, and Shall We Dance won us over b/c of good instructor and privacy of space (they have 2 rooms, and 2 instructors max) so you're guaranteed your own room, although one of them is tiny and one is larger.

We've taken introductory classes at Dance Times Square (44th St and 7th Ave.) and Dance Sport. I agree that Dance Sport is pretty busy. Dance Times Square has a really pretty ballroom and we liked the instructor there but we wanted to do a combination of group and private classes and found a better schedule and pricing elsewhere.

We ended up signing up with Dance New York (54th Street between 8th Ave and Broadway) and doing a combination of group lessons and private lessons. Dance New York Website

We did check out one place that was right around Penn Station 31St on 8th Ave, but I don't remember the name of the place. Will have to check info at home if you are interested
