I really don't have the time to start planning dance lessons, but would really like to be a bit more coordinated for our first dance. I found a dance instructor who will do an 'emergency' 75 minute lesson at my home. Do you think it's worth it? I'm not sure how much we'll learn in one lesson, but I'm thinking it's probably better than NO lessons, right? Then again, I think I'm at the point where my reasoning is a bit off.

Re: dance lessons? w/poll
sorry its long. I wanted to do the whole dance lesson thing and basically forced my fh to do it. By the end of the 3 package lessons he felt we needed more and bought some for us saying if we are going to do it, then we have to do it right. So anyway, we learned this routine and then decided that we didnt want to have our first dance all awkward, trying to remember steps, counting beats, and not really into what the whole first dance is (all loving and romantic ,looking into eachother's eyes). A short amount of lessons are not going to make us win so you think you can dance. Moral of the story, Just learn a few steps from a dance place in 1 to 2 lessons (they usually have a package for starters and then try to sell you others) you can practice in your home, and incorporate into your song and make it the sweet moment it should be.

I don't know if this helps you at all, but FMIL bought FH and I dance lesson DVD's (sort of as a joke) but we started using them and we def. feel like it helped. Well..I feel like it helped me...I am a total spaz, and FH is a really good dancer.
I agree though, that the first dance should be more about the moment and the emotion than memorizing choreography

Go for it, but keep your expectations reasonable. Get a couple of pointers and steps, but don't worry about learning extensive choreography.

We can't afford to do anything with an actual person, and are relying on DVD's. We're completely fu##ed. Get the lesson.

We took 'emergency' lessons at our home, too. With StartDancingNYC.com.....it was awesome. Sooooooo glad that we did it.
