dances

my FSIL metioned to me about my FH dancing with both his sisters at our wedding..is this normal, i have never seen it done before and i am not too happy about the idea. its our wedding day and the focus should be on us, maybe i am being a little selfish since i am an only child but i want to have fun at the my wedding and not sit and watch them dance for 20mins..

I've never heard of this as a tradition, but does FH want to do it? If he does, I'd say let him. It's not going to take any attention off the two of you as it is your wedding that everyone is there to celebrate.

I haven't heard of it either, but are they making it out to be this huge formal dance?? I would just say, yes, they can have a dance with him while you're dancing with friends, but I don't think it should be up there with one of the 'big' dances like the first dance or the parent's dance... See what he wants to do, and then talk about it from there!!

Re: dances

It's something that isn't common but if it's just a dance with family, (ex. part of the Mother & Son dance, etc.) let him have his time with his siblings. Let him know there should be time limit if he is doing a separate dance with his sisters (for ex. it should be limited to 15 mins ea., etc) since the band/DJ will be moving on to other dances & songs.

I have never heard of this either..but I understand what you are saying it's your day & like why does every single part of the family need a special dance? haha but if it is important to him then maybe you both should have special dances with siblings..I wouldnt do one side & not the other..but truthfully I am very close to my siblings & I think that's actually a really nice idea :)

Re: dances

it is something he wants to do too..they want it to be a big deal, basically its like our first dance the whole dance floor will be cleared for them to eah have a seperate dance lasting probably 10mins each..i was thinking of making a dedication song that they could dance too but the dance floor didn't have to be cleared and everyone can still be dancing..i guess i should pick my battles and just let it go...

Re: dances

at my brothers wedding I danced with him and the bride danced with her brother to the same song..and then both families came out all together..it was actually awesome and not a dry eye in the place!!

if they are close I don't see anything wrong with that...maybe they can do half a song each :)

Re: dances

Unless your FMIL wants to share her 3 minute dance with her 2 daughters I would tell her there just isn't enough time and people don't want to sit around watching just two people dance for that long...

Re: dances

I think this is so not necessary. You are the only child in your family there is no one for you to dance with they should understand that its not right to have u standing there with ur thumb in your butt while they dance plus no one wants to watch someone dance no offence but u start to lose ppl even with ur and fh 1st dance if it last longer then 3 mins. Tell them that they can dedicate a song to them but its not just for them to dance let EVERYONE dance at that time,

Re: dances

I have never heard of or have seen this done at a wedding. If your FH wants to dance with his sister's maybe it can be informal during the party rather than a specail dance that all the guests have to watch.

Re: dances

I thnk you have the right idea.. dedicating a song to his sister and dancing with her but including others as well seems like a great compromise. Maybe you can have them start dancing alone for like a minute and then invite others to the dance floor. (Lots of people even do that for their first dance bc people get bored watching just two people dance for more than a couple of minutes!)

And even if they insist on dancing the whole song-- i cant think of any song that lasts 10 minutes! Have him dance with one sister in the beggining (3-5 min) then later on with his other sister (3-5 min).. tell him to pick shorter songs =) BUt if it means alot to him then IMO i would just go with it.

Re: dances

from what I understand its really proper with old school italians (born and raised IN italy)... at least that's what I've heard.
my mothers bestfriends daughter and soninlaw did that..
she danced with her two brothers (they shared a song so it didn't take too long) and he danced with his sister...
it was actually very nice. both families are tightknit.
at FBILs wedding his wife danced with her brother, he doesn't have any sisters (besides inlaws) so he didn't dance alone with a sister, but he made it a point to dance with me and his other sisterinlaw.

Re: dances

My BIL did this at my sister and his wedding. It was really nice... Although he had them both up at the same time and although they couldn't really 'dance' they swayed and hugged and it was really sweet. He is very close with his sisters and everyone was really touched by it. Even my family

Re: dances

At FH's friends wedding he danced with his sister, and his 4 female cousins.

He was the only guy....
