DAUGHTERS WHO FEEL ALONE (formerly Motherless/Parentless Daughters)................
Original post by Sassy
As you all know I am planning this wedding without my Beloved Mommy.... I know she is in my heart and always with me, but it still is very difficult. In fact living day to day I remember Mommy every single day and think about her all the time.
Luckily in discovering LIWeddings, I have also discovered many other 'Motherless Daughters' who share my sorrow and experiences.
Princess99 is also a Motherless Daughter. We have been talking in length about starting a group for Motherless Daughters to get together, talk about our experiences, give each other support, and cry on each other's shoulders. Maybe in doing so, we will help strengthen each other and also make some lifelong friends. We can talk about ways to remember our Mothers in our weddings, in our marraige, and even in the upbringing of our own children. Basically in everyday life, before and after marraige.
Our hope is that we can fill some of the emptiness we all feel, especially by being with others in our situation who understand and feel our pain.
Princess99 had once recommended to me a book called Motherless Daughters, that I bought for myself and since for many others. Since then she came up with the idea of a group and we've been discussing it and think it's a great idea.
If you do also, and want to be a part of our group, let us know. You can respond to this thread, FM either Princess99 or myself, and let us know your thoughts. Any thoughts and ideas for the group are welcome.
Liz and Sue
EDIT TO SAY: That I would also like to open this up to those who lost their Father or a Grandparent as well. If you feel you can benefit from this, please feel free to join. We are here for everyone

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
I hope that after you all read this post that you can appreciate the time you have with your parents. I am lucky because I had such a close relationship with my mother, everytime I left the house to go anywhere I got a BIG HUG and KISS, and a call me if plans change this was until she passed away when I was 21. I talk to some people and they say they could never be that affectionate with their mothers. I wouldn't give that relationship up for the world. It was also so amazing that John got to meet her, it means so much now because he knew her for the first three years of our relationship, and she called him her son in law, and to know I am making her wish into reality is such a wonderful feeling.
Can you ladies share some things you are doing to help memorialize mother or father, thanks Michelle
Hugs to everyone!

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
MISHY, I was the same exact way as you. We were so close, especially in the years before her passing, I am so grateful for that. I even wrote her a poem on her last Mother's Day (little did I know then she wouldn't be here for another one) The poem was titled, Thank You Mother, and I went on to say how much she meant to me and how much I appreciate her. I'll post it sometime. Anyway, when she passed, one of the things that comforted me was that I knew she knew how much I cared and loved her, and how much she meant to me.
I say to everyone, if your mom is a nag, as most are, lol, love her for it, because boy do I miss her nagging. Miro, thanks for posting, and saying you will appreciate her more. Especially at the time in our lives when so much is changing, they are so happy for us and proud. Always tell your Mothers how much you love them. It's so important and when they are gone, you'll be so happy for all the hugs and kisses and times you told her you loved her. HUGS to everyone

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
I want to post that when I first posted this, I posted this on most boards so that the word could spread, so now that the word is out and everyone's seen the different threads (I hope) I am trying to combine all the different threads into one now........
Let's all try to keep it to this BHB thread now.
For backround info, I will post the other links to the other threads, as you will probably like to read what the others had to say. Each thread was uplifting.
Here are the other threads (which I have now directed to start posting on THIS one)
not having mom or dad around has been the most significant factor in my life. Lost both of them within 18months of each other...when I was 22. lost my dad in a freak accident that happened right before my eyes and those of my mom and bro. Mom developed stomach cancer and shrivled up b4 our eyes. determined to hang on until my college grad and died about a week later.
Miss them every single day. Was terrible to deal with when planning our wedding...but felt even worse when i was pregnant. Did anyone else feel this way?
Now that Julianne is here...I just keep thinking about how my dad would have loved to hold her and sing to her in Italian...and how my mom would tell me stories to keep away 'mal'occhio' the evil eye.. hehehe in time I can even laugh at their day to day way of looking at things, Miss them terribly...and will 'visit' them and bring Julianne to the cemetary this weekend.
This is getting overwhelming...I miss them terribly and it is going on 14 years that they are gone...

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
Oh phyl, what you're going through is what I'm afraid of........... My babies growing up w/o their Grandparents. I think I will always feel empty
On the flip side, the best thing you can do for your parents, is make sure Julianne knows them. When she's old enough, show her pictures, tell her all the stories, so she never feels left out. Let her know how they would've loved her and cared for her, and like you said take her to the cemetery and talk to them.
You have gone through a lot of hurt, I'm here for you if you need to talk, vent, hang out, anything. Let me know

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
Allure, I hopefully none of us ever have to be alone again
Which brings me to an idea............. I was thinking when we get this all together, and hopefully have our first GTG - we could assign everyone a 'buddy' meaning someone we could call anytime to talk to on the phone when we're feeling down and lonely.
What do you all think about that idea?

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
I have something to say..
I have lost all of my grandparents.
Well My Mother lost her father when she was 10. So I never knew him and Dad lost his Dad when Dad and Mom first got married..
So I only had grandmothers and both died when I was young!
I have always wondered WHY don't we celebrate the things they loved the most.. Why do we always have sadness in our hearts with their memories?
Doesn't that seem weird?
I know my uncle Frankie loved to do specific things with my father. I try to have Ron carry on those holiday traditions with DAD and say..
Dadddy.. Rememeber when Uncle Frankie would do this and he smiles..
I don't want DEATH to be a sad memory..
I am always around for anyone who wants to talk.. My best friend lost her MOM and DAD within 3 mts of each other and I know she goes to a support group..

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
I love the buddy idea!!!
Phyl...I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I would like to tell you a little story that happened with my daughter. She never had the chance to meet her Grandma...my mom passed 4 months before she was born. She did get to know her Grandpa...dad passed in 2000 when she was 3...anyway, one day she was sitting in her room, she was 5 at the time. She had a big shoe box and she kept blowing kisses in it and then she closed and sealed it with a huge hug...I walked in and asked what she was doing with the box...she says, well Mommy, since Grandma and Pop-pop have both gone to Heaven and we can't call them or go visit, I want to bring my box to the candle store(she thinks a cemetary is like a candle store becasue of all the candles in the chapel)and open it up and let all my kisses and hugs fly right up to Heaven. She said that she knows Pop-pop misses her kisses and hugs and Grandma needed some too. Well, after assuring her that we would go right away and let her kisses fly...I cried my eyes out!! It truly is amazing the imagination children have. I couldn't believe that she thought of this all on her own. I sit here writing this and the tears are falling!!! I alway's wished my mom could have hung on just a little longer to meet her first grandchild, but God took her and stopped her suffering. So, Phyl..I think you bringing your daughter to the cemetery is such a wonderful thing to do. Your parents will see her and do see her everyday. And when she is old enough, she may want to make a box or something else to bring to them just to feel a little closer....

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
R&T: I lost my poppy on July 4. He always loved to celebrate because of the fireworks. He went to walk the dog and had a massive heart attack in the backyard. I just cant celebrate July 4 anymore.
I lost my poppop on the first night of Chanakka.
Some holidays just arent fun for me anymore.
My great grandmother loved thanksgiving and her and I had wonderful traditions and the holiday is just not the same with her gone.
I agree we should celebrate the holidays in their memories, but sometimes its just really hard.

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
Phyl-I know exactly how you feel. when I was pregnant all I wanted was to talk to my Mother!! It was SO hard to go through it without her around. And it kills me that my son will never know my parents.
My Mothers Dad passed away before I was born. but, the way my Mother talked about him I felt I knew him. And that's what I plan to do with Patrick. I want him to know them. I thank God I have video tapes w/ them on it. So he will be able to see & hear them.
My wedding is 4 1/2 weeks away. And there are times I don't think I'm going to make it through the day. I know I will be so happy. But, with the most important people gone it's hard not to think about them.

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
I think having a budy is a nice idea.
I also know how you all feel. I am mourning the loss of my dad but mom is not around either. When I think about who will walk me down the isle I get sick and cry. I don't know what I am going to do. I also feel like the wedding is for my FI family... I sometimes think the whole day will be overshadowed by my dad not being there to share the day with me.

Re: MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS................
Let me start by saying how strong you all are. My mom is around as well as my dad however my fiance lost his mom this past august. The day we get married will be two days before her two year anniversary that she past away. It is very hard for him I know to plan this wedding without her especially becuasue she always wanted us to get married and never lived to see us get engaged. I would have included her in all aspects of the wedding b/c she had two sons and when her other son got married she was not included at all really. It helps me to know that she knows I wouldve have included her but stll wish she were here. Its hard for my fiance b/c being a man he doesnt express himself very well about these sort of things but I know he is hurting. i just wish I knew the right thing to say to him to ease the pain but I guess sometimes ther are no words to make someone feel better. To all those brides who are motherless, just try and find peace in the fact that your mothers will be with you on yor wedding day and always.
