DAVID'S BRIDAL!!!!!!! sorry...long rant....

Original post by autumnbride10

OMG! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME, GAS, and my LIFE!

I went for my 'final fitting' last night. I get there 15 minutes early, and there were already other girls there that were unhappy. I knew this was not going to be good. So the man there asks my name, and he goes into the back, I thought to get my dress. Two seconds later he is back asks me to come with him. I see the train of my dress hanging out of the bag onto the floor, and immediatley think...OH NO...the F'D it up. He proceeds to tell me that the pin had fallen out of the bustle, and without me, they couldn't have stitched it back. He tells me I will have to come back 'tomorrow'. So I respond 'NO, I'm here now, you'll fix it now.' To which he says ok. I go to try it on, and as I am pulling it over my head, I feel thickness in the inner lining of the skirt. THEY STILL HAD THE HEM PINNED FROM BACK IN JULY! So I go out of the room ( after I took pics of it), and picked up the outer skirt to show him the pins, and I ask 'What is this?'. ( by now the room is full of women, and I don't care anymore, plus I am pmsing...haha ) He says 'Yeah, that's what I told you about. I said 'NO...you said BUSTLE...THIS IS A HEM....'...and he just says 'sorry'...So I said 'You had two months to do this, and you haven't done ****.' he tried to say something about leaving it there, and I said 'NO...you will reimburse me for the alterations we paid for that you didn't do, and if you deny me the $$$ I will see your a$$ in court!'..
I changed, and while I was changing FMIL was on the phone with her seamtress.
I go out to talk to the manager, and he was already out there, and when I came out he was like 'That's her...that's the one'. Long story short, they refunded our $$$ and I took the dress with me.
It's now being altered by a REAL SEAMSTRESS for WAY LESS than David's. OH and when I got to the other seamstress, she found the 'lost pin' in the bustle.....

Sooooo sorry Jen. That is exactly why I didn't go there for my alterations. I went to a private seamstress in Wantagh that did a phenominal job.

I had no problems with them (i went to westbury) but I also only ordered the dress there, and as soon as it came in, I picked it up. They never asked about alterations, etc. (I ordered it last june and it came in in 2 weeks so that could be why ...

Glad you have got it under control.

if you're just going to look at dresses (you didn't order one yet) then you have nothing to worry about. Honestly, I think DB is a very nice place to shop for your wedding gown. In all my experiences there they were VERY friendly and helpful. They made me feel like the only bride in the store, because of the way they assigned one person to cater to me during my entire visit. They have beautiful dresses and good prices. So don't rethink visiting them. They are, however, horrible with ALTERATIONS, which is probably all the bad things you've been hearing about them. So definitely get your dress there if you find something you love, just find your own seamstress. That's MY opinion, at least.

I totally agree!!! I had no problems shopping there and purchasing my dress from them. When it comes to alterations, that is a totally different story!!! Definitely find your own seamstress!!! Good luck!

HI 09 Bride here........I just picked up my dress last week.
I asked this question about DB alterations, and had some yes an no's. But after reading about you girls I'M FREAKING OUT!!!!!
So my BM haven't bought there dresses yet, we'll probably do that next month.
So I should go do the alterations some where else right???
What about the Bustle they will know how make a French one or one that will look right for that dress......

So I should just have everyone go outside to their one seamstress????

I have a headache

Honestly, I would have EVERYONE, including you, go elsewhere for alterations. I can recommend a great seamstress in Centereach, and I know the other girls on here can recommend ones in other areas. It's just not worth the stress and aggravation to have it done at DB.
