Originally I was going to hire a Day of Coordintor but since I have a large wedding (about 70 tables) I was quoted higher rates and then my hall said they will take care of setting up all my tables, candles, favors, menus, etc exactly they way I want (which was the biggest task I was going to give my DOC)
Do you think it will make my wedding day alot easier for me and I should just hire one anyway?

Re: Day of Coordinator? - With Poll
Ask your hall their advice. Many times day of coordinators mess up the halls planning and make things worse off than they ever had to be in the first place. Kind of like sticking their nose into someplace it does not need to be in the first place. Your hall should do everything for you thats why we pay them the big bucks!!!!!

Re: Day of Coordinator? - With Poll
I got married in December 2004 and the biggest mistake I made was not hiring a coordinator for the day. So many little things were not taken care of. Although the catering halls try their best, they are not going to attend to all your details. I was asked wquestions all day by the catering manager, the maitre de, the captain...you name. very annoying on your wedding. I created my own cocktails hour displays and never got them returned. I never got a piece of my wedding cake. The distibution of my centerpieces got mixed up. I could go on and on. It is definately worth it to hire a day coordinator. This way you can truly relax and enjoy your wedding day.

I am also considering a DoC but only cause the hall will not set up my centerpieces the way I like them.
I guess you have to ask yourself what do you think you need a DoC for? Is it something you can get your family/friends to do for you?
If not, maybe you can make do with one of the less expensive ones?
Good luck!

Re: Day of Coordinator? - With Poll
I didnt have a large wedding at all but I was so glad I decided to hire a Day of Coordinator. She was so helpful from the minute we started getting ready until the evening ended. My reception site had told me they would do several things but if it werent for my coordinator, they would never have happened the way I wanted them to go.

I agree, the hall will promise you things that def wont get done. It has happened to every single person I know including family who have complained about something important missed from certain pictures to things not being set up- and b/c you are having such a huge wedding I wouldnt even think twice about it, having that many guest you want your coordinator to be your ears and eyes and make sure every guest is being attended to ( ex: they ask for water you dont want your guest to have to ask 3 times or even twice in my opinion) Most halls dont like coordinators so dont be surprised if they are against it- maitre D's are terrortorial and a DOC is like invading.

Re: Day of Coordinator? - With Poll
I was on the fence about a coordinator for months- in fact I did not even know these people existed til I came on this site. I called the Carltun and asled them if they thought I should get one- my BM said she would take care of everything- but, when I thought about it.. there is so much other stuff happening away from the reception venue.. and I like the fact that there is someone else my vendors can call if there is a problem.
I hired someone and I feel good about my decision.

I think with such a large number of guests, it would make things much less stressful for you!

I hired Laura from LA productions. She came highly reccommended from this site. SHe was very sweet when I met with her, and I liked her right away. I am paying $750 for 7 hours. I also met with www.awedwitharedhead.com and she seemed really great too, her fee was $950.00 for the day.

Re: Day of Coordinator? - With Poll
I highly recommend one. I used one and it really isn't so much for the reception (Flowerfield handled all of that) but it was for everything leading up to the reception. I look back and I had no worries that day. All I thought about was looking good
Definetly hire someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as pricing, some people are better then others JMO.
