Day weddings

I need your opinion: do people drink and dance as much during a day weddings compared with an evening wedding.

Re: Day weddings

It all depends on your guests.

I find day wedding to be more socializing and lunching than drinking and dancing sort of occassions.

Re: Day weddings

I am having a day wedding and I know how my friends are once you give them good music, good food and good drinks they will dance and have fun at 8am as well as 8pm. It depends on your crowd.

Happy planning and all the best

Re: Day weddings

my wedding is also in the daytime. my friends and family love a reason to get together and celebrate, no matter day or night, so i know everyone will be dancing and having a great time all afternoon.

Re: Day weddings

I heard this type of 'rumor' when I was getting married too. I had a day wedding and had some concerns. My concerns were for nothing. I'm not sure how much alcohol people consumed (nor did I care) but the dance floor was always hopping, people had no problem getting up. And I was married at Milleridge Cottage where the room is very bright. It didn't make a difference, the crowd and the music makes it. I'm sure it will be fine for you too. Best wishes!

Re: Day weddings

What does everyone think of of a Friday daytime (12-6) wedding on a holiday weekend? Would you go?

dcbride Posted:

Re: Day weddings

By Friday do you mean like friday of a memorial day type weekend, or friday when the holiday is on a thursday like 4th of July.
If it is like Memorial day I think it is hard because most people would have to take off from work, but if most people were travelling anyway it would work because it would give them a full weekend to visit and stuff.

Re: Day weddings

Friday as in Memorial day weekend where the holiday is on the following Monday.

Would you be able to attend a Friday Day wedding and get a four day weekend out of it?

Re: Day weddings

I would--I think if you are close to the person you would go even if it was Wednesday during the day. If the wedding was Friday evening I would have to take the day off anyway to get there in time so I think a Friday day wedding could work.

Re: Day weddings

Are most of your guests out of town? If not, I think your turnout will be very low. I don't know many people who take off the Friday before Memorial Day. If you are okay with a smaller turnout then its a great way to save money and only have the ones that really love you coming.

PS:traffic will be a nightmare.

Re: Day weddings

Actually we have very few out of towners, so I expect the turnout to be pretty good if we do this. We are only inviting immediate family and very close friends. I think most everyone will come but I was just concerned on how people felt about 1) a day time Friday wedding and 2) taking a day off of work on a holiday weekend (although most people should welcome a day off of work! LOL) And traffice shouldn't be too bad if the wedding starts at about noon or 1pm. It's early enough that our guests should be able to get a head start on the traffic.

Thanks for the input girls! I feel better

Re: Day weddings

Darlene...i would definitely go on a friday afternoon of a holiday weekend...but you might want to think about save the date cards, if you haven't already. my company has a policy if you want to add a day to a three day weekend you have to give a lot of notice, because a lot of people like to do that and they don't the entire company to take a 4 day weekend.

Re: Day weddings

Thanks for the great idea phunkykat! I will definately do that to give folks more than enough advance notice. How many months in advance do you think I should send them out. Typically it is what? 4-5 months?

Re: Day weddings

I had a day wedding but it was a Sunday, and I think at 11 am, not too many of our guests felt like drinking...

However, by the time the reception started at 1, those that wanted to drink did, and the rest took it easy...

We ended up having a VERY low-key crowd that didn't do too much dancing (although I think that had to do with my dj more than anything else)...

It really didn't concern us though. We felt like it was the most special day and didn't feel pressure to get the party going crazy. Everyone still had a great time and some of the 'older' folks actually commented to me that they enjoyed it so much more because it wasn't as roudy and loud...

It should be the most amazing day no matter what day it is (Friday/Sat./Sun) and those guests that want to be there and can do so, will...

Good Luck :)
