I am considering doing this. We are getting married at our RH and the cocktail hour is immediatly following the ceremony (and we want to be at the cocktail hour) so we are thinking of taking pictures on site before the marriage ceremony (yes- seeing each other before the ceremony!) and then taking pics the next day off site...where we want to take our pictures is about a 1/2 hour away. it is at a duck park w/a walking trail. it's beautiufl...but I am afraid of getting my dress dirty before the ceremony!!! Should I just get the pics done on my wedding day before the ceremony (and risk getting dirty?!)or wait until the day after? Oh what to do what to do!!? Help!

Re: dday after pictures? with poll
We did the day before pics - except 1.5 months before.
It was great - we had a full stress-free day with the photographer - just the 2 of us.
on the day of the wedding, we took the friends and family shots.
also, we were sure that the 1.5 months before the weather would be good (this can be scheduled a week before) and sunny. On the day of our wedding (November), we were afraid that it would have been too cold or raining, etc.

It depends on how much you're going to stress yourself out if the dress gets dirty. It was POURING the day before our wedding, and we went to the pumpkin field anyway. That's what we wanted, we went for it, it turned out fine. I was sure the dress would end up black after tramping through a field, but it didn't. Mostly, you'll hold the dress up and just spread it out for shots.

I say do it before. You can still set it up so he is waiting for you and you can have that first moment seeing each other. You can make it special and still take your pictures that day!

I think it seems silly to do day after pictures.

did you do your pictures the day before the wedding or the morning of your wedding?
I am very nervous about gettint my dress dirty...it is mostly because I am so klutzy that I may fall into dirt!

We are getting married at our RH and we don't want to miss the cocktail hour either. We are going to take pics before the ceremony.

i think its silly to do day before pictutes-- i didnt want to post anything here--- butt
isnt a wedding supposedly suppose to be all about surprise and not knowing what you husband looks like all done up? Dont you want to see his face when he first sees you walking down the isle suprised because he had no idea you were going to look so beautiful...........idk this is my opinion.. I would NEVER do day before pics-- it takes away from the actual day and the breathtaking memories that wont be there because he already saw you with the gown all done upp--- id rather have okay pictures and have my day all a surprise in a way, even if hes seen the dress... its not the same as you in it all done up............................. sorry for the long post everyone------------------------ butt i know many wont agree but...dont do before pics

first thanks for posting I like to hear different opinions! A wedding (to me) is more about uniting and celebrating the rest of your lives together then suprises. I feel that if the photographer is there to capture the first time he sees me, he will be just as suprised by the way I look as he will be when I am walking down the aisle. I also know that I will still cry happy tears walking down the aisle, even if I saw him before hand. Honestly I am not sure if I am going to do day before pics, but more a few hours before the cermony pics (though I will be afraid of getting my dress dirty!! and about rushing!) But the place we want to take pictures really means something to us and we would like to have wedding day memories there.. and it is too far away to take pics there during the cocktail hour..(since it is a 1/2 hour away). But thanks for posting and I am still considering doing day after pics!

We are taking ours befor ethe ceremony. You can do both. Take some pictures the day of and also do day after shoot (which doesn't have to be immediately the day ofter).

I would rather do them after the ceremony, either before the cocktail hour starts or sometime after the wedding day itself... I wouldnt want to risk ruining my dress (I am a class-A klutz) and then crying my eyes out about it and having to get it cleaned and hopefully not ruined by getting it cleaned... just my opinion though

While this is true for most (we DID NOT see e/o before the ceremony) some have seen e/o before the ceremony and gotten their pictures out of the way, each one of them has said that it doesnt take away from the feeling you both have when you walk down the aisle. I think if you want to do pictures before the ceremony go for it, if you want to do it a week or so ahead of time or the day after do it.
