I went to a wedding this weekend and the centerpieces were dying. They were high centerpieces of red roses. I could not believe it knowing how much she spent on the flowers. I don't know how I would have reacted.

Re: dead rose centerpieces
Unfortunately it happens sometimes, i hope that she noticed so that she can get some kind of money back or something. You never really know what you are going to get the day of regardless of what you see day to day

Hence why I am spending an arm and a leg on flowers.

Re: dead rose centerpieces
my mom and i really discussed this lately - years ago we could buy flowers and have them last up to two weeks. Amazing color and life in any flower we had purchased. I think 90% of florist purchase their flowers from out of the country. I use to only think specialty flowers were flown in but now everything is. Flowers only last days now and they are not as great of quality. I find even people who spend so much on flowers still have dead or bruised flowers in their pieces. It's a shame to spend so much and get dead flowers. I feel bad for that person's wedding you went to.
I think the best bet is to go with in season flowers that are locally grown. I am kicking myself for not doing this myself!

Re: dead rose centerpieces
FH and I went to an enagagement party that was for all intents and purposes a reception with the same prob. The flowers wreaked and were brown. I would have been livid!
FH and I have picked calla lillies and gerbers as floral arangements since they are practically indestructible and can go 2 days without water and still look pretty!

I think that is a great idea! I haven't looked into florists yet but I have been trying to look at ways to make our wedding more 'green.' One way I read about was simply getting locally grown flowers that don't have to be flown in or driven in! I want to try to do this.
