I'm seriously ready to tell FH we're just going to city hall. We're only planning the engagement party and already I'm super stressed about money and time. Everyone elses drama and nonsense, and of course the total differences of opinion when it comes to priority.
And I hate confrontation so I let everyone else win so I don't have to fight.
I seriously wish I had gone to work instead of taking vacation this week. I ended up listening to my grandmothers voice on the last voice mail she left me and crying all morning cuz she's not here to remind me why I'm doing this.

Re: Debating City Hall
First let me say that eloping -- whether city hall or a cute, romantic getaway for just the two of you -- really IS an option. It's not just a backup plan for when things go wrong. You can even elope now and have a party later to celebrate with everyone. That might take some of the stress away because it can be anything from 'just a party' to a full-scale wedding... whatever you need/want it to be. (If you do just go to city hall, bring a photographer)
Do you read A Practical Wedding? This was today's post: APW. The other posts it links to are fantastic too.
Or! Since you're doing all this work for your e-party, you could make it a surprise (or just short notice) wedding. One of the 2011 girls did that.
Otherwise sit down and talk to your FH. Figure out what your priorities are -- just the two of you. Maybe take a break from wedding planning... you have plenty of time!

Re: Debating City Hall
Just take a breath and let your head clear. I was super stressed out right after we got engaged... the day after my mom and FMIL were already planning the engagement party .. it was all going so fast, I felt like I couldn't breathe.
I let go of planning the engagement party and let others do it because they were driving me INSANE!! What mattered most to me was the day of our wedding and planning that, so just focus on your big day instead.
I'm sorry about the loss of your grandmother, but let her voice be the inspiration behind your planning, she is with you every step of the way.

Thanks ladies. That artical was actually a nice perspective. I grew up the same way wedding magazines were the downfall of my allowence.
I have a huge problem with wanting to make everyone else happy, which is apparently impossible.
My parents, my FH and my FIL's are all trying to remind me that I need to make me happy , not anyone else... but I've just never been able to do that.

i know you dont want to fight, but this is you and your FH time. no one else's, put your foot down and tell them 'we are doing this and thats that' dont let anyone make you feel so stressed about your day.
and City Hall isnt always a horrible idea lol

I'm the same way, but at the end of the day, it's about what YOU want. You can definitely have a nice wedding without going overboard with costs, even if it's just a cocktail reception or nice sit-down meal with the 10 most important people in your life.
