Lindsay, I thought of you and Heather today!!!! Debi needs a ton of boxes!!!! She has most of her kitchen packed. On to all the books, CD's, and knick knacks!! Are you guys all squared away and things put into place? Mary MOB

Hi, Debbie! Well, Debi has been out of our house for four yrs. I think we are both concerned about Fred and his friends moving Debi's heavy dresser. The apt. complex does not allow trucks to drive on the grass, which means the guys will have to tote that dresser down a sidewalk for a few feet, but then, down a grassy hill!! I suggested to Debi that she take all the drawers out, to make it lighter, and of course they'll remove the mirror. Debi wants to go ask the new complex manager, if perhaps they can get in, a bit earlier than Thursday, because her tiny apt. has very little room to move when the boxes are stacking up. I'm ready to go to Debi and Fred's new place for supper!!!!!!! Debi assured me a gourmet meal!! Mary MOB

I think my Husband has a hand truck but I don't know if the dresser will be too awkward. When the furniture guys originally bought it, two men carried it. Debi and Fred rented a U-HAUL and padding.

Moving Tips for Marisa

If you're moving without benefit of professional movers, and want to keep costs down, call ahead to stores to flatten and save boxes for you. I got a bunch of clean boxes from the Outlet Hush Puppies store, as well as the store my Son works for. Since Debi and Fred need a lot, I called and was told by Hush Puppies, that they usually get shipments on Friday; They plan to save boxes for me. Also, Wal-Mart told me they'll be stocking shelves tonight, and I could get all the boxes I wanted around 10PM

If you have nice furniture, I think I'd advise renting or buying some moving pads to protect the furniture.

Having a handtruck, to assist with heavy stuff is definitely a wise thing!!

What I usually do:
1. Clean the apt./house , including cupboards, etc.
Put shelf/drawer liners in
2. Move all furniture into place
3. Move boxes into the apt./house

Label all boxes, and post signs in the apt./house, for where those boxes go, especially if you have more than one Bedroom or Bathroom. When packing, put heavy stuff on the bottom. Make sure you wrap all breakables, with newspaper, tissue paper, or bubble wrap. For clean linens, Debi used the plastic totes.

I usually have a moving kit:
Hammer
Pic hanging stuff
TP
Handsoap
Cleaning products
Paper towels
Lightbulbs
Trashbags
Stepladder
Food/drinks
I know we had a thread like this, but I can never get the search to work. Hope your move goes smoothly!! One time when I helped a friend move, I recall someone made a crockpot of sloppy joe, for all of us. Mary MOB

not until we have living room furniture! but slow and steady..

has she gotten any shower gifts from BBB? All my boxes came from shower gifts or things i got in the mail - came in real handy!
