is it wrong of me not to do anything to remember my father on my wedding day at the ceremony or reception??
i just dont want to remind anyone..i know its going to be on everyones minds anyways..is it wrong or should i say..disrespectful??
the only thing i am doing is going to the cemetary that morning..
my sister sent flowers to the grave on her wedding day but she was in florida..so i want to take the oppurtunity to go 'see' him on that day since i will be there...is that weird??

Re: Deceased Father...
I dont think it's wrong. You have to do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Re: Deceased Father...
I think it is completely and only up to you. I lost my mother, and FH lost both his parents...so I only have my father. We haven't discussed a way to honor them that day, but if we do, it will be in a song...

That's not weird at all! It's your decision and I think the fact that you're going to go to the cemetary that morning is awesome!!!

Re: Deceased Father...
you have to do what you feel comfortable with
I am doing a Boquet charm with his picutre saying 'my first love'
At the church and the hall there i will be memory candle buring with a memory pciture frame with his pciture in it at a mini table in the room....
Sometimes I think I shouldn't do all of it, but for me, its comforting to do it.
Everyone handles this situation differently

Re: Deceased Father...
I don't think its wrong to mention him, Dom! I think you shouldn't make a big production...its a happy time...you have already mourned for the loss of your dad...he would want you to celebrate.
I'll have mom's pic on my bouquet for me too see so she can walk me down the aisle...and I'm doing a memory candle and floral wreath at the church with a mention in the program.
Not to state the obvious...but do what makes you happy! It may take a few days to decide what's right for you...I know I changed my mind a hundred times...but I'm happy with my decision.
HOLY CRAPOLA...your wedding is right around the corner!!!!

i just dont want it to be a downer..ya know..i feel like when i go to the cemetary..taht will be sad enough..then to see something reminding me all day will be just too much to handle..pluse i dont want to take focus away from my step father either..who has been around since i was 8..so he is the only father i know
i dunno..i just wanted to hear some opinions about it..or what someone else who lost a parent is doing

Re: Deceased Father...
I lost my maternal grandparents and they were like second parents to me growing up. I'm having the memory charm on my bouquet, a mention in the program, and in the ceremony. I also might do a memory candle by their wedding picture on my reception card table.
It's however you wish to handle it. What is most important is that he's in your thoughts.

Re: Deceased Father...
no matter what you do your father will be there with you. Some people feel the need to do more and some do less.....doesn't mean you love him more or less.
MY sister jsut did the memory candle and the memorial thing in the program.....

Re: Deceased Father...
I think the entire idea of having a wedding without a parent, or parents is so hard. I could tear up right now for everyone who has to go through it....
I also don't think that if you decided to do something in his memory, your stepfather would feel slighted.
However, you are very courageous for going to the cemetary the morning of. We hardly ever go, just not how we want to remember...though I know we should go more.
