Check with him mom before you order anything. My mom refused to have 'and the late...' on our invite in regards to my dad

She thought it was too depressing.

Here is how ours is worded:

i think the invite pictured above is the way to do it.

i would ask, if you want advice on how exactly to do it, a person who works at the invite shop.

some people may tell you that it's not 'proper' to have it on there... but, if it were me i would never be able to omit a loved one from an invite-- especially someone as close as a parent.

I am in a similar situation. Both of my parents have passed away and FH's parents are divorced. FH & I aren't mentioning our parents names on our invitations. You could always say something like Together with their families Bride & Groom request the honour of your presence at their marriage..... I found a website called www.versethis.com that might give you a couple of ideas.

It's a delicate situation and i think you should talk with FMIL before deciding on anything. She might have something in mind or, like the ladies above, she might want to leave it out entirely. She should have the final say.

YEah my FMIL said that either way was fine she didn't really mind, OH YEAH i made sure to ask that first ....

FH's mom just died...

so we put:

my parents invite you to the wedding of

Nina

to

Chris

son of Dad Smith and Mom Smith

we did not put 'late'

I don't think you need to put late if you put son of bc he will always be the son of his father...

This is what we said

The honour of your presence is requested at the wedding of BRIDE, daughter of mr and mrs to GROOM son of MRs and the late mr. It is one of the only ways to phrase it so a deceased person isn't doing th inviting, HTH

Did you ask FH if he wants his fathers name on the invite?

My FH's father passed away about 2 years ago and I asked him if he wanted to include his fathers name on the invite - the way you have it worded - and he said NO. Its to sad for him.

We have a mention of late relatives in our program. You can also light a memory candle for your FHs father.

we went through this scenario as well.

An invitation dictates who is hosting the party. Someone who is deceased cannot be hosting. It is not appropriate to put someone who is deceased on an invitation.

There are many tactful ways to honor FH dad. Such as:
-within your program
-light a candle
-say a prayer during the ceremony

It is never appropriate to put a deceased parent as a host on the invitation.

Re: Deceased Parent and Invitation Wording PLEASE HELP

I am going through the exact same situtation right now and we decided that because when you get married you take your husbands name for example:

Mrs. John Smith... we put

the son of Mrs. John Smith

because it is is mothers name with the MRS..
but his fathers name was still mention. We went back and forth for about a week with putting the late Mr. J Smith but as it is a wedding inviation that would not give the excitment in opening and reading the invite by the guest. At most weddings you are introduced as Mr. and Mrs. John Smith so to not give the feeling that the Mr. is still here we just put Mrs. with this name also.

Hope you figure it out it is a tough situtation.
