Decently priced midtown salon for cut & color?

Hi all!
I've been itching to do something different with my hair ever since my wedding was over back in March! So as an early Christmas treat to myself, I've decided I'm going to go back to my natural color (it's dark blonde but I have light blonde highlights now) and cut about 4 - 6 inches off my superlong hair

I want to do this on my lunch break sometime this week so I can surprise DH when he gets home from work But my regular hairdresser is near my house, so I don't know of any good places here in the city that wont make me completely broke for what I want to do! I was hoping to get some good suggestions from you ladies? I'm looking for anything near 57th & Broadway or the surrounding area. It would also be great to go somewhere where the hairdressetrs are really nice and cut hair extremely well. Last time I had my hair cut here in the city - the place wasn't anything special and I felt like I was run through a mill - it was just so impersonal. My hair is so boring right now - I have super stick straight hair that I just part on the side. I feel like I've had this same hairstyle for YEARS, so I want something a little different, but not high-maintenance, since I never really 'do' my hair. I'd also love to hear your feedback (or pics if you have them!) on ideas for a cool new medium-length haircut for me. I have a pic in my bio, so I'd love any suggestions for a new hair style too! TIA for all your help - I'm open to aall helpful suggestions at this point!

I used to go to Jeffrey Stein salon - there are tons so I'm sure there's one near you. I went to the one on the East side on Third Avenue. Everyone was nice and it was reasonable for the city. good luck and have fun!

Ahhh, one of the major conundrums of Manhattan life! Sorry, I can't help really...I used to go to LI to get my hair cut, and now still travel the 3000+ miles for a trim!!

I went to a Dramatics once and it was none too special...Just wanted to tell you that I feel your pain!!!!

I always laughed at the people who would pay upwards of $100 to get their hair cut!!! It's hair!!! It GROWS back!!

Thanks Farah!
I do want to kinda treat myself, but I feel like I'm getting gypped sometimes when I get a haircut here bc my hair is so straight and easy to chop off! But - it is a treat, so I'm trying not to think of it that way

I'm more concerned about the color, so I wanted to hopefully get some convincing feedback from my wise LIW friends before I hand my now-blonde hair over to a stranger!

Jean Pierre on the corner of 36th & 6th is decently priced - I have had my hair cut there. It was like $35 for a cut - I have chin length hair.
