From what I remember DR is one of the cheapest places to go in the carribean. I Stayed at the excellence in Mexico for 8 days and we paid about $4,500 including airfare and insurance- so you can see the price difference. We really liked the excellence resort. Maybe you can look into Jamaica as well some places there might be on the lower end.
We're going to DR and paying less than $4K for an all inclusive package/panoramic suite, airfare,excursions,etc at Barcelo Bavaro.
I was going to say Punta Cana or Negril, Jamaica are probably your cheaper islands.

this is what we want to do but we are worried about hurricane season!
We're taking a 7 night cruise from NY to Florida & the Bahamas for $2600 with trip insurance (and a balcony!)

Check out Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. It is an all inclusive resort. We went there for a 5 night vaca a few years ago. We booked it through Cheaptickets, I believe, and it cost around $550pp and that included airfare!! Beautiful place too!!
Jamaica and/or Dominican Republic are decently priced compared to many other Caribbean islands. Otherwise, look for a travel deal online - this is a great option if you aren't dead set on a specific island or hotel. i did that and got a great deal for barbados (not for my honeymoon, that is yet to be determined, just a vaca). they do exist!
I would def recommend a cruise over an inclusive. I've been to DR twice and both times myself and everyone I traveled with was sick to our stomachs, we stayed at top resorts too. I did a carnival cruise two years ago from NY to Turks and Caicos, Half Moon Key, and Nassau - it was 7 nights $560pp left Mid May. It was awesome :) Alcohol isn't included but the drinks weren't too badly priced and each traveler is allowed to bring on one bottle of wine.
Thanks so much for all the info girls! Im loving the prices of the cruises but FH has a thing about boats.. Id rather be on a beach somewhere for a few days. I really appreciate the advice!

OMG one thing which I just have to say, if you choose DR, DO NOT STAY at Lifestyle Holidays Vacations Resorts...It was the worsttttttttt vacation and resort i've ever been on!!! I can't even begin to dive into it, but the place and service is horrible!

The girls hit it on the head. DR and Jamaica. Definitely shop around and cheap carribean website is great.
I say check out living social they always have deals but you wouldnt be able ro purchase until 2-4 months before you plan to travel. They also allow you to buy mutiple pacakages to make a longer vacation.
