Decision on Reception

Decision on Reception

My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding just the two of us on August 4th. We are hosting a reception on August 25th. This is both of ours second wedding. We want the hole nine yards, however, with a new home, and four kids amongst us that is a bit financially strapping.
I am looking for ways to have a decent reception, and still make everyone happy.
The DJ is what is the major expense for us, so what is your opinion if we have an afternoon.12-4 reception in serving lunch and then cake cutting. My fiance wants to do the first dance and possibly dollar dance and some 'fun dances'. But it is it cheesy to just have those on an ipod? Need advice.......

There's nothing wrong with just using an ipod! I would make up a really long play list and just give someone the job of being in charge of it.

But do we have a typical wedding reception during the mid afternoon? Thats what I am really having trouble with and if we use an ipod, do we have an announcer to get people involved or if its a luncheon type deal do we even do that? Im really torn on this issue....

I think that you'd be able to find a DJ for a reasonable amount of money. I didn't want to spend a ton of $$$ and had one dj/mc, didn't get any of the other items like lights, tv montage or giveaway favors and we had a great DJ. FM me if you'd like the pricing.
